The Moravia Athletic Promoters met at the high school on Monday March 3. President DeWayne Moore led the meeting while Walt Younker reported the treasurer’s figures and Ron Woodward read the minutes. A benefit basketball game is planned for Saturday March 29 featuring the high school girls against the promoters team with grade school pre games. The Athletic Banquet is discussed for May 13.

John Veach 73 Dies After Illness in Moravia
John David Veach 73 died at home in Moravia on Tuesday March 4 after weeks of illness. Born October 10 1895 in Centerville he was a son of Frank and Elizabeth Veach. He married Grace Frisby in 1921 and worked as a durable implement dealer in Moravia for 41 years. A 50 year American Legion Basil Cowell Post 361 member he served nine months in France during World War I. He belonged to Grace United Methodist Church where he served as a board member and taught Class 8. Survived by Grace his wife a son Richard of Ottumwa two daughters Mary Kathryn at home and Jean Knudsen of West Des Moines five grandchildren two sisters Bess Everman of Centerville and Paulina Phillips of Moline Illinois and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents and a daughter-in-law. Funeral 1 pm Friday March 7 at Grace United Methodist Church Turner Funeral Home in charge Rev Thomas Woodin officiating burial at Hillecrest Cemetery with American Legion honors. Family memorial cancer fund established in his name.
