A church bulletin urges faithful study and growth in grace, notes the Holy Spirit promise, and stresses special tasks needing power. It reminds that 29 Sundays remain until conference and lists Bible School, worship, evening service, and Wednesday prayer, inviting all to attend early and pray, signed by D Winfield Thompson.
M E Church notes Sunday School at 10 and 11 preaching. Epworth League 8 30 p m. Prayer meeting Wednesday 7 30 p m. Foreign Missionary society 8 o clock. Choir practice Thursday 7 30. Heater service begins April 6 through Easter with Epworth League in charge Sunday evening. Program includes songs prayers scripture talks and an Easter playlet titled A Better Betty. Wesley Chapel preaching 9 80 a m Sunday School 10 30 a m. B G Yankins pastor.
Schedule notes list Sunday School at 10 a m and Morning Worship at 11 a m. Albia Gospel Team and Young People meeting at 7 p m. Miss Ruby Whitehead led a fine meeting last Sunday. Mother and Daughter banquet planned for March 28. Dr W d Todd delivered sermons last Sunday with services at 11 a m and 2 p m. Overall good attendance and musical programs by the Monroe Co Farm Bureau quartet and Young People's choir with Leura Esttack at piano.
Six candidates have been filed to appear on the Moravia school election ticket to be held Monday March 10. Four seek director terms of three years and two seek treasurer terms. Names listed include Fee Director St G Miking and others with several OCR errors. Polls open at 12 noon and close at 7 PM.
James McCune of Centerville and Nettie Buckmaster of Oakdale were married Thursday at United Brethren Church Moravia with Rev. Dr W Thompson officiating. Best man John Hicks and bridesmaid Mrs George Lynch attended. The couple, longtime Appanoose county residents, plan a future together and were celebrated at a six o clock dinner at the Continental Hotel Centerville.
Sheriff Earl Gaughenbaugh announces his candidacy for the Republican nomination in the upcoming primary. He is known for prompt response to calls and for familiarity with county duties, seeking voter support for renomination and re-election.
Regular meeting announced for Tuesday evening March 9 at 7 30 with a district instructor visiting March 12 for the annual school of instruction. Afternoon session at 1 50 and evening session at 7 30. Members urged to attend all sessions. Kate Slavin W M Mildred Biskup Secretary.
Mrs Grace Veach, child welfare chairman of the American Legion Auxiliary, received a department secretary’s letter about a needy child of an ex soldier. The local unit has adopted Fraderick W., a seven year old boy.

Richard Sneed a Grinnell College sophomore has been elected president of the Grinnell chapter of Cords Fratres, a literary club. It marks the first time a sophomore has held the post after serving as treasurer. Mrs. W. F. Iforien was a Center ville visitor Saturday.

Moravia High School basketball enters a sectional tournament at Centerville across Thursday Friday and Saturday with high hopes. The Moravia team opens against Mystic at 7 pm Thursday and faces Gorydan if they advance. The squad has lost only three games this season and seeks strong student and community support.
A Towa Wesleyan College news release reports Moravia students excelling. John Fuleton ranks among top four in the senior class during the first term. Misselon McCloud appears on the freshman honor roll for the first semester. An average grade of B or higher qualifies for freshman honors.
Six pupils now attend Miss Edna Hunt’s one room school near Maybiawet west of town. The eight month term began last September and the school had no pupils before holidays. Since then two more students joined the class, a rare distinction noted in the district.
A packed P T A gathering Monday featured enthusiastic remarks on playground supervision and character formation. Miss Tam’s pupils will receive a merit picture. next program to focus on high school age students with plans for an Audrey Johnson morality play.
The joint committee invites all Odd Fellows and Rebekahs to a meeting Friday evening March 7 with a short program. Bring six doughnuts. Do not fail.
The American Legion Auxiliary held a regular session at the Legion Home on Tuesday evening. Local secretary Mrs. Margaret Brain reported on the President and Secretary Conference in Des Moines, detailing key points from the gathering.
The Moravia Union item highlights a withdrawn $10,000 school building proposal for illegality, a Yeomaniam initiation, an impending March 10 caucus to nominate two city councilmen, new Park Hotel landlords McIntire Brothers, and moving trends with over 25 families changing residences. It also records a 12 pound girl birth to Mr and Mrs Sig Pence and a marriage of Miss Edna Burton to CU Ne at the Burton home.
The regular monthly meeting of the Farm Bureau and the Iconium Brotherhood will be held at the Methodist Church in Teunium this Thursday evening. County Agent Bowdish will speak and part of the program. Miss Kathrina and Muril Cox of Mystic will report on the older boys and girls conference. The Charity Boys of Mystic will provide music. Everyone invited.
The Milwaukee Road will spend over 28 million dollars in 1940 for property improvements and additions, surpassing the 1929 budget by more than 3.5 million. About 11 million is for equipment, 15 million for major improvements across twelve states, and 2 million for rail expenditures. Equipment includes 2000 gondolas 700 box cars 600 flat cars 300 ore cars and various cars. Major work covers track elevation line relocation grade separations new yards buildings and dock facilities. Miscellaneous additons include bridges trestles culverts engine houses shop roadway machinery signals interlocking plants and fuel water stations and station facilities.
Mr and Mrs Rullie McDonough and Mr and Mrs Georgy Winsler entertained the Progressive Club at the Die Donough home Wednesday evening. Bridge was the main diversion. High score won by Mr and Mrs Chester Brat, second by Mr and Mrs Von Tracy. Out of town guests included Mr and Mrs W C Main of Centerville. Delicious refreshments were served.
Mrs Gerald Hayter of Blakesburg spent the weekend visiting her parents Ms and Mya and Frank Chawbers, enjoying time with family members during the trip.
