Candidates Filed For School Election In Moravia Monday

Six candidates have been filed to appear on the Moravia school election ticket to be held Monday March 10. Four seek director terms of three years and two seek treasurer terms. Buckmaster and McCune Wed in Moravia Ceremony

James McCune of Centerville and Nettie Buckmaster of Oakdale were married Thursday at United Brethren Church Moravia with Rev. Dr W Thompson officiating. Best man John Hicks and bridesmaid Mrs George Lynch attended. The couple, longtime Appanoose county residents, plan a future together and were celebrated at a six o clock dinner at the Continental Hotel Centerville.

Mrs Grace Veach, child welfare chairman of the American Legion Auxiliary, received a department secretary’s letter about a needy child of an ex soldier. The local unit has adopted Fraderick W., a seven year old boy.

Grinnell College freshman elected club president

Richard Sneed a Grinnell College sophomore has been elected president of the Grinnell chapter of Cords Fratres, a literary club. It marks the first time a sophomore has held the post after serving as treasurer. Mrs. W. F. Iforien was a Center ville visitor Saturday.

Edna Hunt Teaches Pupils in West Town District

Six pupils now attend Miss Edna Hunt’s one room school near Maybiawet west of town. The eight month term began last September and the school had no pupils before holidays. Since then two more students joined the class, a rare distinction noted in the district.

Farm Bureau Iconim Brotherhood Meeting at Teunium

The regular monthly meeting of the Farm Bureau and the Iconium Brotherhood will be held at the Methodist Church in Teunium this Thursday evening. Milwaukee Road plans extensive 1940 improvement program

The Milwaukee Road will spend over 28 million dollars in 1940 for property improvements and additions, surpassing the 1929 budget by more than 3.5 million. About 11 million is for equipment, 15 million for major improvements across twelve states, and 2 million for rail expenditures. Equipment includes 2000 gondolas 700 box cars 600 flat cars 300 ore cars and various cars. Major work covers track elevation line relocation grade separations new yards buildings and dock facilities. Miscellaneous additons include bridges trestles culverts engine houses shop roadway machinery signals interlocking plants and fuel water stations and station facilities.

Progressive Club Hosts at Die Donough Home

Mr and Mrs Rullie McDonough and Mr and Mrs Georgy Winsler entertained the Progressive Club at the Die Donough home Wednesday evening. Bridge was the main diversion. High score won by Mr and Mrs Chester Brat, second by Mr and Mrs Von Tracy. Out of town guests included Mr and Mrs W C Main of Centerville. Delicious refreshments were served.
