Recreational Areas Planned For Rathbun Continued
The plan outlines portable water and groundwater sources for sites with pit and flush toilets, picnic areas with tables and grills, group shelters, wilderness camping with possible modern facilities, and concessionary swimming beaches with lifeguards. Site selection considers scenic value, topography, water depth, road access, and proximity to other areas while coordinating with outside agencies to maximize reservoir land use.
Zoning Proposed for Rathbun Reservoir Area Development
State park boards and the Iowa Conservation Commission plan licensing to develop the Rathbun area to attract hunters and fishermen. Public access, boat use, houseboat and boathouse rules, private road permits, and safety measures are outlined along with cautions on growth, litter, and the need for county zoning to regulate private properties around the reservoir.
