Waste Paper Drive Seeks Scout Support Across Community

The Moravia Troop No 40 joins a nationwide Boy Scout General Eisenhower Waste Paper Campaign running March through April. Residents are urged to save waste paper including magazines newspapers and boxes. two major collections are planned. Awards include a General Eisenhower Medal for 1,000 pounds per unit and a World War II shell container for 1,000 pounds per boy.

Corp Carl Dicks Reported Missing In Action

Corp Carl Dicks of Albia has been reported missing in action according to word from the war department. His wife Floriene Dicks received a telegram stating he has been missing since January 18 in France. Dicks went overseas in November 1944 and has served since December 1943.

Mord Dudley born October 19 1862 in Appanoose county died February 25 at daughter Bertha Arnolds home near Seymour after months of ill health. Survived by wife Sarah Anna Killian and five children plus 18 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Funeral held February 28 at Unionville Methodist Church with burial in Unionville cemetery.

The Moravia Independent School District election will be held at the Community building on Monday March 12 with polls from 12:00 to 7:00. Two directors will be elected for three year terms. Shower and Farewell At Dodd Home

Rev W N Roush Celebrates 82nd Birthday in Waterloo

Veteran pastor Rev W N Roush 82, longtime United Brethren figure, celebrated his birthday Wednesday. He homesteaded in Nebraska, helped establish churches, served in Gladbrook, Vinton, Lisbon, Moravia, Bristow and Hudson, and retired 12 years ago after seven years at Hudson. Now in Cedar Heights, he attends Graves Memorial and often fills pulpits while caring for his home. his wife died two years ago and his daughter-in-law resides nearby.

Howard Promoted to Staff Sergeant at Ninth Air Force Base

Robert E. Howard of Moravia Iowa has been promoted to staff sergeant at a Ninth Air Force Marauder base in France. An engineer- gunner with 19 missions over Europe, he serves with the 822nd Annihilators, the pioneer B-26 group in the theater. His unit was awarded the Presidential Citation for outstanding work.

Floyd Arnold Released From Army

Pvt. Floyd Arnold arrived Saturday at his parents home Mr and Mrs Bert Arnold after discharge from service due to disabilities. He went overseas in 1944 and suffered head wounds in France last September. Hospitalized in England since, he was later brought to the United States and sent to a hospital in Walla Walla Washington.

Boy Scout Fund Near 150 Mark

Solicitors for the Southern Iowa Area Boy Scout fund reported $148.50 raised so far with more gifts expected. Fred Hammond captained the winning team which collected $88.80, while Karl Tuttle led the losing side with 66-1. Under the agreement the losers will provide an oyster supper for the winners.
