Local notes describe building plans for Rathbun Lake with bulldozers clearing trees and roads expanding near the dam. Consensus says it will be some time before site choices and lake developments are decided and started. Donald Tibball of the Hilton comments on the long daylight hours.
The community notes longer agricultural hours despite displeasure with daylight saving time. Farmers report early starts near 4 a.m. and work stretching past 9 p.m. Crop prospects look above average after roughly an inch of rain, boosting corn, pasture, beans, and other crops. Haying proceeds while corn cultivation nears completion, and birdsfoot trefoil appears in bloom across local pastures as a noteworthy legume.
The Helping Neighbors club met June 15 at Maggie Brown's home Centerville for a cooperative noon meal. Members present shared keepsakes and social time. A picnic is planned for July 11 at Centerville City Park at 12 30 with each family bringing a cold drink ice and a covered dish.
Miss Jean Ann Taylor of Des Moines and Robert T. Janes of Collins exchanged wedding vows in a double ring ceremony at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Moravia on June 12, 1965. The event drew 125 guests with music by Linda Davis and Dave Harris. attendees included family from Ankeny, Des Moines, Collins, and Moravia. The bride wore a Peau de Soie taffeta gown with Chantilly lace and carried a white orchid bouquet, and the couple plan to reside in Ankeny while pursuing further education and employment at Look magazine and John Deere.
Udell residents Amos Burkl and Mrs Clara Pherigo of Ottumwa spent Saturday to Sunday with Mr and Mrs John Dotson. Frank Bennett visited Cedar Rapids relatives. Olive Moffett of Louilla visited sisters Minnie Moffett and Clara Dudley of Centerville. Don McCarty and Roberta Coltrain of Ottumwa visited the Howard Burkland group. Ed Succow of Des Moines and family hosted relatives. Laura Hayworth returned from Des Moines after weeks away. Mrs Harry Cameron of Beacon visited Minnie Replogle and others. Marshal Hedgecock returned from St Joseph hospital after farm injury. Howard Burkland and family hosted Ricky Burkland and Betty Cerrington in Ogskgloosa.
