Foxes must be protected in Iowa warns extension

Wildlife specialist Bob Moorman cautions against digging fox dens or capturing pups as foxes are protected by Iowa law. The state has a closed season on foxes from February 18 to September, while coyotes remain open year round. During denning, both species feed young with small mammals and occasionally take pheasants or quail with no clear population impact.
