House pushes six billion dollar federal cut plan
In a decisive House vote last week Representative John Kyl led a move to slash federal spending by six billion dollars and add a ten percent surtax. The bill, likely to come to a vote around June 20, faces ongoing debate over how deep reductions should go and which programs to target, with foreign aid and research and development poised for cuts. The measure argues tax hikes won't curb inflation without spending limits, though consensus on final passage remains uncertain.
