Crop Outlook for This Area to Date
Southern Town and Northern Missouri have had rain to restore depleted moisture. Subsoil moisture remains low while topsoil absorbs recent rainfall. One inch of moisture weekly is needed for good growth. Warm weather with sufficient moisture will boost hay, pasture, and small grains. corn needs little moisture until late June. Insects like corn borer, grasshopper, and chinch bugs threaten corn, requiring control measures. Overall, farmers anticipate a decent oats crop, modest hay quality, and a promising wheat crop.
