Moravia will celebrate the 4th of July again with a bigger event this year. A Friday meeting of business and professional men at the Community Building named J. B. Sneed president and outlined fireworks and parade plans with committees on finance advertising arrangements and decor.

A large crowd gathered at Moravia Methodist church last Sunday evening to hear Rev. Richard Sneed formerly of Moravia now of Bryantville Mass preach. The preacher and his wife are visiting at his parents home and with her parents in Scarboro Iowa during the trip.

Moravia Board hires Nesbitt as training critic

Miss Aimee Nesbitt, last year’s teacher at Sheffield Iowa, is contracted by the Morniig Public School board as normal training critic and instructor. She holds a B S from Missouri State Teachers college and an M A from the University of Missouri and will take Northwestern University courses this summer.

Moravia Public School will provide free private lessons on band instruments this summer to all town and country pupils from sixth grade up who plan to attend Moravia High School. Relative of Moravians Attacked in Nebraska

A Nebraska paper details an attack on Mrs. Neal Johnson, wife of a Methodist minister and sister of Moravia residents M. H. Johnson and Effie Gollaher. The assailant, described as medium height with a light complexion, broke her jaw, overturned teeth, and fled as authorities in western Nebraska, eastern Wyoming, and southwestern South Dakota hunted him.

Memorial Day Observed At Moravia Cemetery

Memorial Day services were held at Moravia Cemetery led by the local American Legion Post. The Moravia Public School Band veterans and others marched from the Legion Post Home to the cemetery for a program including selections by the band, audience singing of America, invocation by W G Lagle, address by Rev J W Zerbe, reading of In Flanders Fields by Zell Callen, and a firing squad salute with taps.

Moravia High School class of 1985 diplomas are ready after a delay caused by unsatisfactory proofs. Fake diplomas were issued at commencement. genuine ones arrive after verification. Students may collect at the Moravia Union office. diplomas feature royal blue suede covers, gold lettering, and a four page insert with colors, motto, diploma, and class roll.

Moravia to Host Inaugural Night Under Floodlights

Moravia Public School Band will play a short concert at 7 45 before opening night games at 8. The floodlight system on the ball diamond west of the Moravia school is nearly finished with two games planned, featuring Iowa Southern Utilities of Centerville against a Moravia team and another Moravia team facing an unnamed opponent likely from the Tecumseh area. Funds to cover expenses may come from gate receipts or a free will offering.

Admission charge plan proposed for opening night at local event

The committee in charge has decided to implement a uniform admission policy to encourage broad participation. Opening night admission will be six cents, with hopes that this will be the regular price on other nights except for special occasions. Children of school age and below will be admitted free opening night. Further details on age limits will be announced later. Attendees are urged to show good sportsmanship and cooperate with entrance schemes. Plans for games beyond Tuesday night will be announced from the diamond and in next week’s Moravia Union.
