Nominees Determined In Primary Election With Two Exceptions

Nominees were determined in Appanoose county primary with two exceptions for the Board Member 1931 term. Five candidates vied on both parties. Joe Gray led Republicans but failed to reach 36 percent while S G Boyles led Democrats. County conventions will nominate for this office. There were close races for state representative and county auditor as results came in. Unofficial tallies for Taylor township and Appanoose county followed.

Moravia High Students Compete in State Meet at Iowa City

Moravia High School students led by Supt. Charles Michener traveled to Iowa City for the State Academic Meet on Monday and Tuesday. Participants included B. F. Whitehead Louis Hughes Norman Firkins Paul Day Archa Callen Velda Hiatt Lieile Coltrain and Dorothy Dodd, who qualified by finishing high at Chariton district meets. Over 800 students from across the state competed, with Moravia earning a district cup for first place at Chariton.

Memorial Day Observed at Moravia Church and Cemetery

Memorial Day services were held at United Brethren Church in Moravia led by Basil Cowell Post of the American Legion. The program began at 10 o'clock with a march to the cemetery for graves decoration, salute and taps. Rev. D. W. Thompson delivered the day’s address and paid tribute to fallen soldiers. audience joined in music and prayers.

Cantata At U B Church Splendid Entertainment

The United Brethren Church in Moravia presented The Pathway of Service cantata last Sunday evening. A large crowd attended and praised the performance as splendid. Organizers and performers included Mrs. Elva Waughop, Mrs. Edna Johnson, Mrs. Ervie Hawk, Mrs. Wm. Burns, Mrs. D. W. Thompson, and pianist Mrs. K. Boyer.

Frank Swaim New Proprietor of North Side Cafe

Frank Swaim is new proprietor of the North Side Cafe in Moravia, recently owned by May and Miia, with the deal closed last week. May and Mea Smith and family have returned to a farm near Eldon. Swaim, aided by Claude, will renovate the cafe and plans a neat looking restaurant serving meals and short orders.

Moravia Graduates Ellen Reich and Hale Slavin at Iowa

Two Moravia youths, Miss Helen Reich and Hale Slavin, earned degrees at the University of Iowa commencement. Reich, BA, will stay in Iowa City as Research Assistant in Child Welfare and pursue an advanced degree. Slavin, Doctor of Medicine, also becomes a 1st Lieutenant in the Medical Officers Reserve Corps and will begin surgical residency at St. Louis City Hospital for one to two years starting July 1.

Moravia All Stars Sweep Two-Game Series

Moravia All Stars opened the season by winning two straight games from Albia Ta Mo Leaguers reserve squad. Friday at Albia they triumphed 17 to 1, then Sunday at Mayravia Moravia won 10 to 8.

Moravia Plans Celebrations for July Fourth 1930

Moravia will celebrate the Fourth of July with a homecoming and festive program. A town hall meeting elected officers and committees to organize parade, fireworks, music, concessions, amusement, and decorations. Next meeting June 14 at the town hall to review plans and report progress.

John Fulton from Moravia graduates from Iowa Wesleyan College Munilay with a Bachelor of Science degree. He earned top scholastic marks and will join five chemistry graduates headed to institutions nationwide. Fulton is assigned to Brown University in photochemistry under Professor Kraus.

Memorial Services Held At Iconium Friday Afternoon

Memorial services at Iconium proceeded with a Boy Scout led program including music by the Ivln choir and Rev Zerbe address. It marked the 24th year Rev Zerbe spoke on Memorial Day as a parade formed after the chapel and Scouts decorated nine Confederate graves.

Mrs. E H Boyer Bayer remembered in Chariton Township obituary

Mrs. E H Boyer Bayer born November 26 1840 in Ripley County Indiana grew up in Chariton township Iowa joined M E Church at Buccannan school house later at Fairview Church. Married Elijah W Bayer April 29 1869 and raised a large family on a Main Station farm. She died May 25 1930 at 79 with many descendants and surviving relatives. funeral at Main Station conducted by Rev Rowe assisted by Rev Zerbe.
