Moravia High Students Compete in State Meet at Iowa City
Moravia High School students led by Supt. Charles Michener traveled to Iowa City for the State Academic Meet on Monday and Tuesday. Participants included B. F. Whitehead Louis Hughes Norman Firkins Paul Day Archa Callen Velda Hiatt Lieile Coltrain and Dorothy Dodd, who qualified by finishing high at Chariton district meets. Over 800 students from across the state competed, with Moravia earning a district cup for first place at Chariton.

The program began at 10 o'clock with a march to the cemetery for graves decoration, salute and taps. Rev. D. W. Moravia Graduates Ellen Reich and Hale Slavin at Iowa
Two Moravia youths, Miss Helen Reich and Hale Slavin, earned degrees at the University of Iowa commencement. Reich, BA, will stay in Iowa City as Research Assistant in Child Welfare and pursue an advanced degree. Slavin, Doctor of Medicine, also becomes a 1st Lieutenant in the Medical Officers Reserve Corps and will begin surgical residency at St. Louis City Hospital for one to two years starting July 1.

Married Elijah W Bayer April 29 1869 and raised a large family on a Main Station farm. She died May 25 1930 at 79 with many descendants and surviving relatives. funeral at Main Station conducted by Rev Rowe assisted by Rev Zerbe.
