A 80 by 34 foot hay barn on U G Turner's Iconium road farm near Moravia burned after sparks from a brush fire blew into it. The Moravia and Albia fire departments fought the blaze, saving a stock barn. Turner lost hay, harness, and commercial feed, with partial insurance coverage reported.

Funeral services for Dwight Weatherly of Laporte City who died after a heart attack in Waterloo were held in Laporte City with Rev. Ralph Subplee officiating. The body was taken to Moravia for additional services. burial followed at Hillcrest Cemetery. The service featured hymns by local singers and processions, with Masonic rites at the cemetery and many relatives traveling from surrounding towns to attend.
