Cochran Home Burns With All Contents Fire destroys farm house near town

A fire of undetermined origin completely destroyed the Lester Cochran farm home five miles southwest of town on Sunday about 4 p.m. The family, away at a picnic, lost the two story house and all possessions. Neighbors saved a couple of chairs. The farm, owned by Lessle Potts and the Horton Potts estate, was to be vacated January 1 with government purchase pending for a lake project. Moravia and Centerville fire departments fought the blaze but could not save the structure. A Friday shower will collect and deliver clothing and household goods at the Morning Community Building for the Cochran family. Children include Judy 16, Teddy 11, and Jimmy 9. All donations will be accepted at the community building.
