Tax and welfare costs drive county budget concerns
The budget adds, tax levy limits and rising welfare costs strain funds across the county. Allocation increases are blamed on state and local welfare programs, ADC, and a growing obligation for care in state institutions. Surplus commodity room costs rose from 340 to 3900, with a caretaker earning 270 monthly for two days a week. The Centerville ambulance subsidy increases expenses, while Turner Funeral Home provides service without subsidy. The situation may deter local industry and business expansion amid a looming tax burden.
