Insulation boom tightens supply across Iowa market
Iowa insulation suppliers report tight stock and backlogged orders into 1978 as demand surges driven by tax incentives and higher energy costs. Firms like Michel Insulation and Town Excel Corp. say production is expanding but customers face allocations and possible price hikes of 3 to 19 percent amid a nationwide expansion by Owens-Corning and Johns-Manville. Concerns include quality and fire retardants in cellulose products and consumer confusion over insulation options.
