Fireworks lit the Kirksville and Moravia nights with a noisy display while a tragic caper struck a local family near the Archer and Brompton ponds. A chaser exploded on John A. Wilson’s chest, leaving a padded bandage. Drowning dangers at Iee, Brompton and Davis ponds prompted cautions from residents and memories of a Brompton pond accident. Moravia fire brigade staged a costly demonstration as pressure issues hampered hoses and extinguishing plans amid holiday preparations.
