Funeral Rites Sunday For D. S. Fenton 73
Dennie Steven Fenton 73 died of a heart attack at his Centerville home after years of heart trouble. He was born near Plano, lived in Unionville, then moved to Centerville last November. A lifelong farmer and Baptist, he leaves wife, eight children including Otha and Harold, twenty grandchildren, a brother Dan, and sister Mary Belle Curtis. Funeral Sunday at Brushy church, Rev. James Thomas presiding. burial in Brushy cemetery.

The Girls Missionary Guild gathered Thursday evening at the Evangelical United Brethren church for their regular meeting. Irene Padlock led as hostess with a lesson on witnessing through community development. Members Margaret Pendee, Maxine Firkins, and Mardeena Hiatt shared items on development and missionary work in Sierra Leone and Japan. Irene and DeLoris performed a clarinet duet. Mrs. Latada Peck has returned home after six weeks with her daughter in Ottumwa.

At the Moravia school district annual meeting the treasurer reported a year end balance and the total operating cost for the year. The budget and staffing saw raises in instruction costs with new hires Mrs. Leo Bowdish for third grade, Mrs. Lloyd Rose moving to fifth grade, and vacancies in seventh grade and high school homemaking. Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Cecil Dowson was hired and Joyce Hiatt was rehired as secretary to the superintendent and as temporary board secretary.
