Chariton Valley Electric Cooperative completed a voltage upgrade along its west Moravia area corridor. The project doubled distribution voltage from 2 to 4 kilovolts, rebuilt 30 miles of line, and reused existing wire with larger insulators and upgraded transformers. Moravia player Molly VanBenthuysen competed in the U S Women's Pan American and Olympic trials at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg. Elmer E Pennington born near Moravia on January 10 1901 moved to Des Moines at age nine and lived there the rest of his life. He worked in the Iowa State Legislature for 15 years handling voting machines before their replacement last year. He died June 23 1975 of an apparent heart attack. Services were held June 26 at Miller United Methodist Church with Rev Earl V Nelson and Rev Harry L Herlen officiating. He was laid to rest in Moravia beside family. survived by brother Roscoe R Pennington and niece Mrs Doris Boblenz etc. Memorials to Miller United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her three month old daughter Halley Jo her mother and stepfather and sister Diana Hurtt of Cedar Rapids. Her father preceded her in death. She was Centerville High School 1973 graduate. Burial for both was in Hanes Cemetery north of Centerville.
