Taylor Farm Bureau and 4 H held at New Hope School house Monday evening with pictures shown and sandwiches served. Several local families and guests attended various gatherings and Sunday visits at multiple homes and hospitals.
Mr and Mrs Burdett Cox announce the birth of their son Nyle Burdett Saturday at St Joseph hospital in Centerville. He is welcomed by siblings Dale Ramona Ron and many relatives from the Proctor Ward and Leffler families during a weekend gathering at the Proctor home.
A daughter spent Sunday at the J. Léckman home. Larry Coltrain had been on the sick list this week. Mr and Mrs Buelt Taylor and family spent Sunday afternoon at the Bert Vickroy home in Plano.
Kiwa State College extension dairyman Robert Fincham warns against feeding corncobs to dairy cattle even with supplements. He notes that attempts to use corncobs as a hay substitute have lowered milk production and advises dairy farmers to avoid this practice.
A guide notes dairy cows gain weight with corn cob meal like beef cattle but milk output stays low. For average hay this year, a ration of 500 lb ground ear corn, 300 lb oats or bran, and 200 lb high protein supplement is recommended, totaling about 1000 lb with roughly 70 lb cobs. Additional cobs beyond that are not advised.
