Moravia Chapter No 34 C EB S and Antiquity Lodge No 252 AF and AM held a joint installation Monday evening in Moravia. Officers for the Eastern Star and the lodge were installed in ceremony with a large crowd. Incoming Worthy Matron Bertha Broshar was conducted to her station by Beulah Bishop sang There’s A Light In The Sky.
Audrey Zike returns to York College Nebraska after holiday break with parents Rev and Mrs T J Zike. Menu lists steak mashed potatoes brown gravy baked beans escalloped tomatoes pickles hot biscuit jelly pie.
A reader recalls a tale from Enon about J T VanDorin hearing a rabbit squeal near a creek. He finds a mink with the rabbit as a dog chases the mink but instead kills the rabbit and the mink, leading to the title That Fool Dog. The entry ends with garbled lines and numeric hints.
Norma Milleap and Paul Kincade, both of Kansas City Kansas, were married at the United Brethren parsonage Thursday morning with Rev T J Zike presiding in a single ring ceremony. Attendants were Francis and Mrs Kincade of Moravia. The couple departed for Kansas City to establish their home.
A New Year dinner brought together many relatives at the H. E. Stocker residence. Guests included E. F. Wilson and spouse, Edna Dyphon, Larry Bishop, Wilbert Large, Charlie and donna Stocker, M. A. Knapp pair, Doyle Clair, Gabe and wife, Wanda Berniece, Jack Burton and Donald, Johnnie Hewitt and daughter Mary Frances, Dick Wilson and Jay, Mar Deena and Trenton, Zella Wilson with LeRoy, Wilbur Johnson and spouses. The group shared baskets of food and later enjoyed music by Gomer Stocker and Charlie Waldon.
C T Foglesong and F A Tarria in Oskaloosa where Foglesong seeks treatment at Ab bott Hospital. Boyd Runnels stayed with brother Ralph in Ottumwa. Mr and Mrs Zell Callen hosted Mr and Mrs Catie Whicker at a six o clock dinner. Mr and Mrs Dale Caria of Cherokee were visiting locals. Mrs J E Sh of Centerville stayed with sister Mrs G B Johnson on New Year’s Day.
A miscellaneous shower honoring Miss Elsie Runnels later Mrs Dorothy Perry was held at the home of Mrs. Guy McKern. Family and friends attended a social afternoon with refreshments and gift opening, listing numerous attendees and gift givers.
The Ladies Aid of the Methodist church reduced the church debt by 600 dollars in ten days. The payment covered principal and interest and was made early though not due until next June, lowering interest costs.
Moravia FFA Secretary Clair Woodward reports strong hogs and sheep projects, dairy cattle entries to Waterloo, and a Guernsey placing tie at the Dairy Cattle Congress. Six members attended the American Royal Livestock Show in Kansas City, two granted free rail travel. The group toured Chariton chapter last October. Revenue from corn shucking added twelve dollars to the treasury. lime purchases and a mineral mixer are under construction to fund the treasury. Weekly meetings follow strict parliamentary procedure as nine boys were initiated last Friday and four more are planned.
Relatives report Henry Winkelman critically ill after a stroke at his LaPlata Missouri home. Forest Wakefield leaves for Sioux City after holidays with family. Mrs. E G Hawk returns home to Oaklandor from Abbott hospital in Oskaloosa and is improved. Continued holiday travels and visits across Iola Kansas Indianola Council Bluffs Ottumwa and Iconium. New Years Eve watch party hosts Donna Jean and Codyne Lugen with guests. Frank Wilton family visits Cantril while Elmer Charity remains ill.

The Ap panooste County Ministerial Association will hold a regular meeting in Centerville on Monday January 9 at the Church of the Nazarene Corner 16th and Bank Streets. Rev KF F Solgren will conduct devotionals and Rev Merritt LaGrone will speak on Labor Together With God. All county ministers are invited.
Lela Bells Benz of Udell and Carl Alden of Unionville Iowa wed in a Sunday ceremony January 1 at Rev Orlando Ogden's Udell home. Attendants included Doris Culberson William Alden and C L Alden with Clarence Culberson witnessing. The couple, active Unionville Methodist workers, will live on the Alden farm northeast of Unionville.
U B Aid menu lists Swiss steak with brown gravy mashed potatoes escalloped corn sauer kraut and werners pineapple salad pickles and cherry pudding with whipped cream coffee for Wednesday January 11.
The Moravia Band Auxiliary will meet in the music room at the school building Friday afternoon at 8 o clock. Community social notes mention New Years gatherings with families from Ames Centerville and Bondurant plus students from Iowa State College attending events in the area.
Joint installation of Moravia Rebekah and Odd Fellow lodges set for next Monday evening at the I. O. O. B. hall. Installing team from Moulton to perform the ceremony. A covered dish lunch will follow. Members and families invited to attend.
Moravia schools resumed Monday after a one week holiday period with the faculty unchanged except Madge DuVall replacing Isabelle Rosa in pre primary and first grade classes.
Two showers were given last week honoring Mrs. James Nash, a recent bride. On Wednesday afternoon, December 28, Mrs. Gus Tisue opened her home to about 20 guests for a miscellaneous shower. Refreshments and games entertained, gifts collected. On Friday afternoon, December 30, Mrs. Bert Nash hosted about 35 guests for another miscellaneous shower with gifts and notes of New Year resolutions.
The notice reports unusual thunder and lightning accompanying rain on Tuesday night in January 1989. It hopes for cooler, snow-free weather to cool off next summer’s Fourth of July celebration.

Mr and Mrs Zell Callen hosted about thirty Golden Links class members at United Brethren church parlor on Friday evening. After a devotional, they played Chinese checkers and various stunts with Mrs John Dille Mrs Ora Whicker and Mrs T J Zike assisting. A monthly social was decided. Refreshments were served at the end of a delightful evening.
The W. F. M. S. of the M. E. Church held a Monday afternoon meeting at Mrs. Stella Carter's home. Roll call, devotions by Mrs. Cameron, and readings from John 1 8 7 9 9, plus hymns and a program on India. Mystery questions were tied to popcorn balls as a fun highlight before a luncheon.

Dr and Mrs Noorden Slavin have returned to Tipton Iowa after a visit with Wolverine shoes at close out.

The church lists 10:00 a.m. church school 11:00 a.m. morning worship at the main church and 9:30 a.m. worship at Wesley Chapel with Epworth League at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. evening worship. Choir practice Wednesday at Mrs Blumenstock's. Eleven o'clock service will administer the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. All invited to attend.

Fifteen Epworth League members enjoyed a fellowship hour last Sunday evening at Iconium Circuit Teonium. Mrs Spurlock preached in the evening. Next Sunday there is no service as the League travels to Hilton for a Bible ball game. The Bible Class led the missionary program and revival meetings begin this Sunday and continue indefinitely. Sunday School starts at nine, Hilton next Sunday morning service will be followed by a Bible ball game between Iconium and Hilton. Everyone is welcome to attend.
