Will Spencer of Albia died suddenly at home on December 29 1984 after ill health and a family illness. Born near Hilton Iowa June 26 1859 he lived in Monroe County most his life and moved to Albia eight years ago. Survived by wife Anna Clair Sharp four grandchildren and several siblings. funeral at Downs Funeral Home Albia officiated by Rev O M Morgan and Dr Mott R Sawyers with interment in Albia cemetery.
Mrs Sylvia Hiatt hosted Young People from Miller church Sunday evening December 28 at her mother Mrs Caroline Hart's home. Fifteen attended due to bad weather. They visited played games and sang. Osa Wood presided naming Frederick Koehler treasurer and Sylvia Hiatt secretary for the coming year.
Mrs. Louisa L. Myer, 72, of 2810 Jefferson Street, died yesterday morning at home. She was wife of Rev. M. B. Myer of Tampa, who led the ren y United Societies about 52 years ago. Survived by her husband, four sons, a daughter, and ten grandchildren.
The Iconium M E Sunday School reported 59 attendees on Sunday December 28. A joint installation of Masons and Eastern Star was planned at the Masonic Hall Friday. The program featured children before classes and Christmas treats after. Ray McCloud visited in Albis Monday morning.
Appanoose county Farm Bureau holds its annual meeting Friday at 1 30 p m in the room across from the Farm Bureau office. County Agent Leo Bowdish announced reports of the year work will be presented and officers elected. Members urged to attend as the event will be a business session only.
Moravia High School boys and girls basketball squads travel to Cincinnati Friday for Southern Iowa Nine conference games. The Moravia boys aim for a tenth straight win over Cincinnati while the girls seek to rebound after a conference loss to Myantic. Coaches report hard work this week to shake vacation kinks and expect a strong fan turnout.
Word has been received of the death of Winthrop Brooke on November 26 at Winona Kansas at age 46. He was county attorney at his passing and remembered for helping establish the first United Brethren church here during Rev. F. E. Brooke’s tenure. He was a Drake University and Leander-Clark College graduate and is survived by his mother his wife and a 89 year old son.
Proposals to carry United States mail on four Centerville star routes from July 1, 1985 to June 30, 1939 will be received at the second assistant postmaster general's office in Washington D C until 4 30 p m Tuesday January 15 Postmaster Albert announced These routes run from Centerville to Albis Cincinnati Mystic and Milan Mo with one night run to Albia Bid bonds and route details available from Postmaster Albert or the second assistant postmaster general Mail settings will be made at Washington for star routes across Iowa Ohio Indiana Illinois Michigan Wisconsin Minnesota Missouri Arkansas Louisiana Texas and Oklahoma
Mrs Frank Selby reports Christmas in Hollywood at Ferns with family all well. Oneita teaches at 10th and Valencia Los Angeles and will join for turkey. They visited Santa Anita race tracks, praising the large venue between Los Angeles and Upland. Frank and Willis Esstlack fished off Mexican waters near San Diego, catching tuna.

Mr and Mrs F H Coulson hosted their annual Christmas dinner at their Moravia home. Guests included Mr and Mrs Lewis Rouse and family Hilton Mr and Mrs W W Zahn and family near Oskaloosa and Mr and Mrs Charley Johnson and daughter Ruby. An afternoon tree and program by the Kiddies delighted all before they departed late.
Regular meeting of Antiquity Lodge No 262 A F and A M scheduled for Monday night January 7th. Members are urged to attend as business and ceremonial duties will be conducted.

Mrs. John Abegglen of Albin learned of the deaths of her brother-in-law and sister Mr and Mrs James Tuttle of Havre Montana. The Tuttles who moved from Moravia 18 years ago died within a week of each other, Mrs Tuttle from pneumonia on December 16 and James five days later after an operation. They were about 70. Survived by son Carl and a grandson. Mrs Tuttle was Ida Ensley of Moravia.
Laura Veach born January 24 1875 near Centerville Iowa died December 19 1984 at age 59 10 19 in Centerville after a long teaching career including 31 years in city schools She married Charles A Veach in 1898 and had two children Claude Henry and Albert She was survived by sisters brothers grandchildren and nieces and nephews A life long Baptist church member Rebekah lodge and WCTU active in community and church services Funeral services held at Miller Funeral Home Centerville with Pastor H B Trimble officiating Burial in Oakland Cemetery Dale Herrison visited Indianola recently
The Moravia Union review highlights 1934 as a year of heavy deaths and many marriages amid a severe drought. Severe dust storms, a mild winter, and record heat dominated farming, with corn yields failing and the drought lingering into fall. The drought response included corn hog payments and ongoing political activity from primary to general elections.
Eula Nadine Hauk daughter of John and Ediny Hauk was born July 80 1914 in Appanováse county Iowa and died December 27 1934 at St. Josephs hospital Centerville Iowa at age 20 years 4 months 27 days. She moved with her parents to Oklahoma as a child then Clayton New Mexico before settling in Moravia. She leaves her mother and stepfather Lee Johnson three sisters Lucile Louise and Medora one brother Gerald and many relatives. Funeral services were held at Brushy church at 2 30 pm Sunday officiated by Rev J W Zerbe.
Four generations of Funkhouser descendants gathered for Christmas dinner at the Funkhouser home. Attendees included A W Funkhouser and wife of Atlanta Missouri, C N Main and family of Albyn Missouri, G P Main of Kansas City, and relatives from Illinois, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Chicago. Photos were taken as the clan enjoyed a noon meal and the first time in seven years all the children were together.
The Basil Cowell Post votes to move its regular meeting from January 14 to January 7 due to the County meeting in Cincinnati. Commander L. E. Thompson notes the change. A family cooperative dinner was held at Mrs. Mary Roberts and Fred Tillmont’s home on Christmas Day with Ethel Roberts Albia, Keith Roberts, Guy Roberts and families, and Dorothy Davig in attendance.
