M E Church notes announce Sunday School at 10 am for all ages. Preaching at 11 am. Epworth League at 6 20 pm. Preaching at 7 90 pm. Prayer Meeting at 7 30 Wednesday evening. B G Hankins is the pastor.
A local United Brethren Church sermon reflects on the New Year as a chance for progress and sinless living. Last Sunday's attendance rose with a large country dinner, and members are urged to attend Bible School at 10 a.m. and worship services throughout the day led by minister D. Winfield Thompson.

Joe Lynn family visits from New York and Grover from Minnesota. reunion with Merritt Stevens. Wilhelm Blumenstock travels to Washington DC for indefinite employment after leaving Iowa State College due to vera trouble. Christmas trees and programs held at Moravia Methodist United Brethren and Christian churches last Tuesday. praise for Christmas programs echoing the season.
Margaret Ellen Adams Funkhouser, born December 25 1899, died on Christmas Day at age 90 after long life in Seymour and Moravia Iowa. Survived by son J N Funkhouser of Moravia and daughter Mrs Madden of Puxico Missouri, plus seventeen grandchildren. Funeral at United Brethren Church Moravia with Rev D W Thompson. interment Mt Pleasant Cemetery.

Moravia High School hosts Promise City High School in a home basketball game Friday evening after a layoff of several weeks. Moravia hopes the holiday rest broke the jinx and the team will be in top condition for the matchup. Tipoff is set for 7:45 p.m.
J W Alberts section crew reports killing an eight four foot engine near Jeff Turner farm the day after Christmas. They returned to the scene the next day and confirmed the presence of the shake, a sign of spring in the district.
Walter Scott recounts killing a black rat near his Moravia premises last Friday. The account claims he has proof and notes prior sightings of gray rats and other birds, marking the first reported black rat in the area.

Opera house gave way to a gym, no electric plant, water works and sewer still desired, clocks in churches secured, band stand uncertain in appearance, eight room school replaced by a larger, well equipped building, cement sidewalks improving over brick, and a brick block slated for the north square. The piece urges a revitalized Commerce or Community Club to better organize action toward water, sewer, street surfacing, and communal spirit.

Tom and Manning Harwood visited Moravia last Friday en route to Centerville to see brother Oliver. Harwoods once lived in Moravia thirty years ago. Tom works in a steel factory in Gary Indiana and Manning farms near Hedrick Town. Mr and Mrs O O Whicker and daughter plan to move to a farm north of Moulton this week, the family’s former residence.
Rey and Mrs. B G Hawkins visit their daughter Mrs. T H Cathay in Fairfield for New Year’s Day. Mr. and Mrs. Rolla McDonough welcome a 103 pound baby girl born Tuesday, December Alsat.
The Merchants of Moravia sponsor a free picture show at the Crystal Theatre this Wednesday evening. Everyone is cordially invited to attend this community entertainment event.
Richard Sneed delivered the sermon at the Methodist Church Sunday evening. attendees reported a splendid message. A Grinnell College sophomore, he is a well known local speaker whose addresses are highly anticipated. He has been visiting his parents during the holiday vacation.

Mrs. William Pence died near Bussey after a long pioneer life. Born Aug 10 1853 near Moravia Iowa she married William H Pence June 18 1870. They lived in Kansas and later Moravia with seven children and many grandchildren. Funeral arrangements set for Moravia with interment at Criss cemetery.
The Moravia Reporter notes Mrs. J. B. Foote died after stabbing herself between nine and ten in the morning. Moravia won a Clay Pigeon shoot against Goo Goo with 166 to 121 birds out of 300. Local hopes for an opera house, electric light, water works, church clocks, a new bandstand, a brick school, and brick sidewalks are voiced for the new year. A daughter was born to the Linns and another to the Tiace family. Trains ran late due to snow, Clyde Hiatt and Emma Butler wed at the Butler home near Seymour, and sleet storms disrupt telephone service.
Tra Francis Boshak born near Moravia Iowa June 80 1881 died December 28 1928 aged 48 years six months and twenty eight days. He farmed seven miles southwest of Moravia and married Bersit Kineads April 26 1904. Survived by five children Velma Vernal Vera Vernon and Vera with Velma’s husband and child at home Vernal teaching in Ogden Iowa. Funeral at Fairview M E Church Maine Station conducted by Rev J W Zerbera and others burial in Fairysaw cemetery.
