Christmas day and holiday visits fill Ottumwa area homes with extended families from Des Moines Waterloo Centerville and beyond. Guests include the Kearneys Hiner Pettibone Woodward Tadlock Over turf Koffman and many others as dinner gift exchanges and birthday celebrations occur across numerous households.
Mr and Mrs Paul Wilson and family hosted a Christmas day dinner with a noon coop meal and a gift exchange. Attendees included numerous relatives from Centerville Quin Cincinnati Des Moines Unionville Coastville Altus Coastville and Coastline areas.
The community centers on holiday gatherings with many local families sharing meals, gift exchanges, and visits. Notable names include the Cridlebaughs Hiatts Pettibones Longs and Dooleys as they traveled between Spencer Davenport OsKaloosa Unionville Centerville and DeWitt New York. Ernesty Helmick Elmér and others are noted in visiting and hosting events during Christmas week.
Church schedules list worship times Bible study and prayer meetings at Salem Moravia Iconium Chariton and Grace. Pastor messages include topics The Secret to Greatness and Sermon on the Mount. The Moravia Saddle Club announces a delayed regular meeting moved to Thursday night January 8. A 6:30 co op supper will be served at Corner Cafe followed by a film on Care and Grooming of Horses. Mr and Mrs Loyd Carter and Mr and Mrs R C Hiatt were supper guests Christmas day of Mr and Mrs Lee Hiatt in a small community gathering reflecting holiday hospitality among local families.
Robert and Jennie Jennings express gratitude to friends neighbors and relatives for moving assistance and help with the sale. They thank those who sent food cards flowers and gifts while in hospital and after returning home. Special thanks to doctors nurses ministers and new neighbors for warm welcome.
Athletic promoters will meet Monday evening January 5 at 7 30 at the high school to elect officers.
Moravia high school Voc Ag room hosts the Moravia Young Farmer meeting at 7 29 p m to discuss cattle rustling and livestock identification with Harry Robertson from Appanoose County Sheriff’s office. Boblenz invites community members to attend as the year’s program is outlined.
Richard Harsh, holder of a Master of Arts in Fine Arts from Carbondale Illinois, accepts a teaching post at the State University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. He and his wife visited Cedar Falls on Wednesday and plan to move next week as classes resume in January.
Diane Rogers of Moravia Mohawkette tops the regional scoring with 249 points in nine games averaging 27.7. She moved past last week’s leader after two high scoring showings including 25 points against Leon and 39 against Moulton Udell.
Mamie Pearl Tisue Lydia, born October 8 1897 in Monroe county died December 22 1969 at Monroe county hospital Albia Iowa aged 72 years 2 months 14 days. She married Ernest R Stauber March 30 1916 and later Harley C Tisue November 4 1925. Survived by husband two daughters Evelyn Nash Ernestine Argo son Carl Tisue nine grandchildren seven great grandchildren one brother Ray Lemaster and many relatives. Funeral December 24 1969 at Salem United Methodist Moravia with Rev L B Deedrick officiating. Burial Moravia cemetery.

In two exciting games at Moulton Tuesday the Mohawkettes led from the start to win 70-54 as Diane Rogers scored 39 and Claudia Miller 22. The Mohawks edged the M-U boys 66-64 with Nicky Dicks scoring 22, Bob Self 16, Randy Scott 15, and Bob Hiatt 6.
Coy E. Luse 67 of Centerville died suddenly of a heart attack at his home on Dec 29. Born March 30, 1902 in Appanoose County, he was a self employed truck driver. Survived by wife Velma Simmons, a son Carl of Town City, a daughter Ileta Walter of Center ville, three brothers Gus Robert Cody of Moravia, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral Wednesday at 1 30 p m Turner Funeral Home with Rev Kermit Gladfelder officiating. Burial Hillcrest Cemetery.
Cyril McDanel bought the house and lot from Joe Wilson in a Tuesday morning auction. Sylvan Van Dorin purchased the two lots along the Milwaukee tracks.
Mr and Mrs Norris O Conner hosted the O Conner family Christmas dinner on Christmas eve at their home marking Frank O Conner s 82nd birthday. A ham meal followed by a gift exchange and many photos with numerous relatives attending from Colfax Marengo Bethany Perry Des Moines Cedar Rapids Ankeny and Des Moines area.
Brent Turner infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Turner was honored at a baby shower at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wilson Sunday evening. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Labertew, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Harbour Centerville, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Zapatil Mystic, Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie VanZante, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mihalovich, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Turner and the host couple.
Taylor Aid will hold its regular meeting Friday January 2 at the home of Mrs Leta Pettibone. Members are to bring reports and share updates on community projects and fundraising efforts.
Mr and Mrs Gary Belzer of Albia are proud parents of William Anthony born December 24 at Davis County hospital Bloomfield. Grandparents Herb Bobleng and great grandparents R R Pennington are noted in the birth announcement. Theresa Noel arrives December 25 to Mr and Mrs Patrick Davitt of Harlan a 7 lb 12 oz girl welcomed by three sisters and Centerville relatives.
