The Monroe Township home department of the Farm Bureau met at Mrs J L Johnsons home on Tuesday December 28 for the second year lesson led by Mrs J Ky Long and Mrs Johnson with seven ladies present The next lesson on rug making will be held at Mrs C G Daviss home on Tuesday January 8 bring a covered dish and supplies including woolen material burlap sack inner tube and leather punch Also Mr and Mrs N J Main C C Smith and family BRFP Main and family Miss Freida Main were entertained at the C C Waughop home Friday
Mary Etta Cloyed widow of George L Cloyed dies at 84 after forty years of married life near Blakesburg Iowa. She leaves two sons and two daughters, eleven grandchildren, one great grandchild, and siblings R M Jones J G Jones and D Jones plus Mrs George Twedell. Funeral held at home by Rev W P Donahoe with interment in Eslinger cemetery.

Mr and Mrs W C Bivin celebrated their 85th wedding anniversary at home in Moravia on Christmas day with all their children and many grandchildren present except W C Funkhouser who was in New Mexico. A noon dinner featured roast geese and sides followed by gifts visiting and song with Mrs Hamilton at the piano before departing with good wishes for more years together.

Wm Gardner of Gardner Hatchery is a partner in the Baby Chick Poultry Service hosting a weekly radio program on WLS Chicago Saturdays at 1 16 p m. He displays a triangle emblem in his window to signal membership and invites all listeners to tune in for practical tips on flock sizing timing and equipment plus a lively music program.

Wm Haver of Centerville received a Monday message announcing the death of his brother Geo Maver in Fallis Oklahoma. He, with Mr and Mrs Loren Haines and Roscoe Argo, left by auto to attend the funeral. An obituary will be published later.
Sixty seven men organized into eleven teams and wagons husked forty acres for L G Calhoun south of the con umm Tuesday. The ladies of Iconium churches provided a large noon dinner at the Christian Church. Mrs Calhoun is recovering from a severe siege of pneumonia.
Ladies hosted Miss Thelma Johnson at two pre-nuptial showers in Centerville and at Mrs H E Watts home. Gifts crowned a Christmas tree as bridesmaids and guests admired presents. Johnson departs for Buckeye Arizona to wed Clyde Wilson December 31.
Miss Gertrude Ellis and Frank C. Fisher wed at the Ellis family farm east of Ridgefarm Illinois due to the bride’s mother’s illness. The ceremony was officiated by B E. Fisher with thirty five guests, bridesmaid Garnet Ellis, best man Carl Mille, and ring bearer Louise O’Neal. The couple plans to reside on the Ellis farm after March 1 while Mrs. Fisher finishes the Moravia School year.

Jonathan Dele Chase, three and a half, son of Mr and Mrs John Chase of Russell Iowa, grandson of Mr and Mrs Albert Brain of Moravia, died Monday December 20 at Yocum hospital Charlton after an appendectomy. Funeral at First Presbyterian Church Russell Wednesday at 2 pm with burial in Russell.
Ted Oehler of Maravia has been drawn on the federal grand jury for the coming term of the U S Court at Ottumwa. Others from Appanoose County called include John Dotson of Udell Frank Dudley Centerville Joe Gray Centerville I R Joen Moulton and James Samson of Cincinnati. they will report January 20.

Mr and Mrs C D Ingham and daughter Frances Jane Mrs A R Barnes of Albia and sister Mrs Anna Owens of Burlington Iowa were calling on friends in Moravia Christmas afternoon.
Fire of unknown origin destroyed the Sam Barnett residence in the northeast part of town early Friday. Mr Barnett escaped through a bedroom window with minimal clothing as the house fully burned. Mrs Barnett and daughter were away visiting relatives. The nearby garage also burned, with a car saved only moments before total loss. Insurance coverage is mentioned.
Thelma Hiatt and T. J. Luse of Moravia married Tuesday evening December 24 at six at the Little Brown Church in Nashua Iowa. Rev Wm Kent officiated. They were joined by Dorothy Broghar of Waterloo and Sert Turner of Moravia. The couple plan to live on the W C Stark farm area. They recently visited Chicago with relatives before returning to Moravia. Subscriptions are due.
Moravia High School travels to Promise City Friday Jan 2 for a boys basketball game. Moravia aims to defend its honor on Promise City’s new indoor court and rally town support. Moravia has shown potential, having held Centerville in a close game.
