Native Lumber A Large Business In Moravia Community
Native timber and logging is a major regional industry with local sawmills purchasing about $500000 worth of logs annually. Roughly 25 to 30 workers are directly involved, plus many more indirectly, as Moravia hosts three active mills and a network of loggers supplying lumber for furniture makers in Kentucky, Tennessee, and beyond. Everett Long coordinates log buying and trucking to markets, with walnut logs moving to Veneer firms in Dubuque and shipments to Italy via Milwaukee and Norfolk rail lines.
