Business and civic figures in Albia and nearby counties criticized economic downturns after a Des Moines report. Keith Cash, co chair of Rural Area Redevelopment, said publicity aimed to impress federal authorities and prompt swift action. Mrs Ralph Labertew of Udell has been appointed to represent the Ottumwa district of the Methodist church at a three day National Council of Churches seminar on The Christian farmer and government. Taylor Aid met with Vic Mibato on February 1 for regular gathering. Attendees included Dorothy Boyer Deloria Ballanger Gerald Loyd Carter and wife Ivan Harsh and wife Mary Meadows and many others. Minutes read with roll call and gifts for secret friends discussed pencil games dues and pennies for friendship collected.
The Clover Leaf club gathered at Janice Moore's home on January 24 with four guests present. Members enjoyed a cooperative lunch, selected hickory nut meats, and noted Vera Moore's illness but improving condition. The January 10 meeting was postponed to February 7 due to illness.
The Harsh and Harrington families along with Mr and Mrs Ivan Harsh and others hosted a birthday supper for Gladys Harsh on Wednesday. Several guests visited, including Mr and Mrs Jay Wilson and family and Mr and Mrs Harold Hudgens during the week. The Taylor Toilers 4 H club met at Guy Argo's, with multiple local families noted in attendance and Sunday activities at the M E church.
The meeting led by president Linda Johnson opened with the 4-H pledge and flag pledge. Members listed in roll call included Martha Rouse Jean Turner Linda Johnson Sharon Gey Lois Ann Callen Maxine Johnson Linda Davis Janie Estlick Sheryl Brown Lou Ellen Rowley Barbara McGinnis and Dixie Davis. The club will meet on Tuesday nights and adjourned after talks and demonstrations. Janie Estlick spoke on Care of Shoes Lois Ann Ollen spoke on Personal Cleanliness and Daintings and Lou Ellen Rowley demonstrated Care of Hands and Nails. Barbara and her mother served refreshments. Donald Darby presented the Nazareth stone for the new First Methodist church in Martinez California. Israel government shipped the cornerstone at no cost and will host an anticipated spring ceremony with Rahav possible to attend. The stone will be stored at the parsonage until construction begins.

Nut meats were picked for the day. Lorraine won the guess what. Cards were signed for Cora Murphy Allie Taylor and Doris Christy who were ill. Next meeting set for Lorraine February 14 with a valentine exchange for secret pals. A farewell party at Barbara Allen’s is planned February 8 with cookies sandwiches and coffee.
A Milwaukee work train from a Newtown wreck spilled into town Sunday morning. Cars split apart creating gaps and gaps widened as rear cars stop and later are picked up by the crew. No engine was with the latter incident.
