Dick Johnson invites friends to catch illiterate frogs as dry weather for three years has left little water. Timber crews remove rotten maple trees in Moravia park for safety and replace with new plantings. Citizens wonder if a forthcoming freeway explains the cutting.

Victor Hetherington, 33, a former Albia resident, died suddenly at work in Ottumwa. Funeral services were held at Willard Street Methodist Church with burial in Marysville. Several local residents, including Cecil Comstock and family, attended the Ottumwa service and Hetherington is survived by wife Lucille and three daughters. Local gatherings noted. neighbors and relatives visited in Ottumwa and Albia areas.
At the Cecil Cort stock home Gerald Burton and son Jerry are sick with measles. Mr and Mrs Richard Tubaugh attended Methodist church family night Wednesday. Mrs Albert Tubaugh visited Mrs Minnie Hicks in Centerville Friday. Eva Miller spent Sat and Sun with Bertha Miller and Eleanor in Moravia, Miller celebrating her List birthday Feb 12. Janiece joined the class party Friday. Sharon O Connor of Mora via and Donna Rae Tubaugh stayed with Venetah Tubaugh and Janiece Monday night. Chas Andrews and wife were evening callers. Albert Tubaugh and granddaughter Drenda Gae spent Monday with relatives in Belle Plaine.
Multiple households report visits and overnight stays across the week. The Coulsons and Woodwards hosted guests Sunday after church. Neva Mericle stayed in town with Delmar. other couples and individuals visited various homes including the Hausers, Argos, Boblenzs, and Burns family during the week.
Mrs John Van Zante and Mr and Mrs Lyle Jones and families of Washington Indiana spent Saturday night with Ben Jones. The So and Sew club held their February party at the Carl Van Zante home. 4 H club met at Hilton. Several Van Zante relatives gathered at the Shepard home Sunday to honor the anniversary with D A Van Zante Everett Van Zante Hassalman Will Van Zante and Bertha Van Zante among others.
Merevia Town Council met in a special session to hear objectors on the budget estimate. No objections, budget adopted 5 yeas. Regular session followed with minutes approved and treasurer's report totaling eighteen thousand five hundred twenty-two dollars and two cents across funds including General, Street, Public Safety, Water, Municipal Enterprises, Recreation, Utilities, Debt Service, Road Use Tax, and Liquor Tax.
Officers of the 100 poshiy Waite Bureaus in the state led by Bob McGinnis and Donald Mur dock urged the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation to warn producers against increasing hog numbers for next fall and winter. They warned Iowa farmers could lose millions in 1957 if hog output grows too fast, noting breeding stock rising except in drought areas and current strong markets for breeding stock and gifts repurchased at buying stations. An eastern farmer cited 50 pound pigs at 19.50 dollars and warned of possible 10 dollar hogs if actions aren’t taken, with February breeding pushing pigs to market next December.
A fragmented note lists residents and services including Roy Underwood hauling water, Harold Prough welding, McGrighy and McDonough services with gas figures, and Chas Johnson installing a water fountain for $1 218 56.
