County Treasurer Says Taxes Not Yet Payable
County Treasurer Buster Hargis reports taxes not due at the courthouse yet. Millages were released last week and taxes must be computed in the Auditor's office, then handed to the Treasurer for typing about 11,000 receipts. If many changes occur and delinquent accounts or special assessments arise, the process could take longer. Normally due January 1, the delay stems from controversial assessment suits in Appanoose and neighboring counties.
