Health Dept Warns Influenza May Persist Months
The Health Department urged Jowans to take precautions as influenza and pneumonia cases rise above 1940 levels. With 2000 influenza cases by January end and 424 pneumonia cases, officials cited better reporting but noted wider prevalence. They advised bedrest at first sign of illness, limiting visitors, and covering coughs to curb spread, and explained illness onset and symptoms for both diseases.
