Dewey Break In Sends Shopowner On Alert

A break in at Dewey's Place occurred Sunday night. A bread truck driver found the south side cafe door broken and the interior rifled Monday morning. About 10 cartons of cigarettes stolen, roughly $3 in pennies taken, and loose coins. Cabinets, files, and drawers were emptied. Similar breaks occurred in Plano and Albia.

Garden Club Meets With Mrs Ira Boyer Moravia

Moravia Garden club opened its new year at Mrs. Ira Boyer’s home with 20 members attending. Roll call, corrections to officers, audit report, and a $10 donation to the National Council of State Garden clubs were approved. Plans for a district flower show in June were announced with Mrs. Ira Boyer as general chair.

John W. Burton of Moravia is tentatively listed to receive a Master of Business Administration at Indiana University's mid year commencement on Sunday February 7 in Bloomington. About 500 graduates are on the tentative list, though totals may drop due to incomplete requirements or a decision to attend the June commencement.

Moravia FFA judging team places 10th at state show

Moravia FFA entered Rex Overturff Jerry Brown Joe Tadlock and Jim Archer in the state judging contest held January 30 at the FFA sale pavilion in Iowa Falls. The Moravia team finished 16th among 47 teams with a score of 434. Atlantic won with 494 and the top gift sold for 520 dollars.

Nazarene Youth Meet at Woodward Home

Nazarene youths fellowship gathered Friday evening at the home of Mr and Mrs William Woodward with 30 in attendance. Paul Woodward conducted the business meeting while Mrs Frank Woodward led prayer and Rev Ray Cox gave the benediction. The group spent time visiting and playing pong, with refreshments served by the mother to close a happy evening.

Max Hiner was selected Moravia fire chief on Tuesday evening with Friz Walter as assistant chief. Fire crews battle meadow blaze at Perry Mikels farm

Moravia fire department answered a 2 00 p m call Monday to extinguish a meadow fire at the Perry Mikels farm southwest of town. About 10 acres of meadow and a stack of loose hay were burned.

Moravia Girls Capture Fifth Conference Title In Six Years

Moravia girls basketball defeated Cincinnati 79 to 65 on Saturday to win the Appanoose-Davis conference tournament for the fifth time in six years. Sawyer and Martin led with 28 and 23 points respectively, as the team built a large first-quarter lead and maintained it. Free throws and strong guard play bolstered the win with Sawvel and Judy Martin contributing on defense and offense.
