Mr J A White spoke to High School pupils on January 27 about succeeding after education. He urged that success comes from one’s thoughts and actions and emphasized religious life, good habits, and living within means. He urged avoiding debt and failing to repay debts while seeking education value.
Moravia basketball hosts Moulton next Friday at 7 30 in the Moravia gym. Mildred Chambers class of 1928 invites all to attend and cheer for Moravia.
Sewal High girls and Moravia girls opened with a tight contest as Moravia edged Sewal 21 to 20. In the boys game Moravia defeated Sewal 21 to 17 after Sewal had run 14 straight wins. The Moravia defense stifled Sewal’s late attempts.
Dr R J Atkinson of Toronto Indiana arrived by plane from Toronto to Moravia Iowa, landing near the city limits. The trip covered about 140 miles in an hour and three quarters aboard a Hunter Aircraft plane from Cedar Rapids piloted by Das Hunter. He spent the night and planned to return home to Toronto today.
In Moravia a reading recital by Mrs Ethel O McAninch is set for Thursday February 3 at 8 06 p m in the Big School Auditorium. Her program blends humorous and dramatic readings with a one act play. A Penn College graduate with Wisconsin and Curry School training she taught public speaking at Marion College for three years earning praise as a speaker.
ALF and A M notice announces work in the first degree at the Masonic Hall on Friday evening February 4. Members are expected and visiting brothers are welcome to attend.
The grain and livestock judging content will be held at Iowa State College in Ames on February 4 and 5. Six contestants from M, HL 5, and County Agent Wd Cruickshank will select representatives based on judging work and reasoning, counted as half the score.
Moravia High School will present its home declamatory contest at the gymnasium Tuesday evening February 8. Winners advance to the sub county contest on February 11 and the preliminary state contest on February 26, promising a stellar school event.
The M. Be Church reports its largest congregation in months with a union service at United Brethren Church led by Rev. H A Smith. A subsequent Monday gathering drew 165, with over 100 served last week, and 50 plus seeking baptism with plans to hold services at the Christian church while their own is built.
The Church of Christ lists Sunday School at 10 a.m. with Mrs. SleKern as superintendent, Communion at 11, and a day aid at the church Wednesday. A missionary meeting is set for Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Danel. Those with perfect attendance in January include several named members and others.
Sunday School at 14 a.m. and preaching at 11 a.m. New members to be received into the church. Christian Endeavor at 6:40 p.m. preaching at 7:46 p.m. Prayer meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Hal Waughop has purchased the Pryde half of the B T Service station with Lawrence Farnsworth as assistant. They previously operated the business as a partnership started by Albert Hanged. Pryde leaves for Arizona with his family due to health, sending friends’ good wishes as he departs.
Dear Editor from Ernfold Sask dated January 28 describes a mild snap in a lingering winter with drip efforts and an overall cheerful note about spring approaching. The letter mentions good mail run, neighbors exchanging greetings, and a cold season kept at bay by family visits including Mrs Walter Brown and daughters Bernice and Marjorie from Washington. D K Orelup hosted Kensington Club members and spouses with wind driven rock entertainment and refreshments.

Miss Dephen Dutstin has just passed the Civil Service Examination with a very high grade and is expected to receive an appointment soon. She will work in Washington, D.C. Dutson is a Moravia High School graduate who studied civil service at the Lowe Success School of Ottumwa. She is intelligent and expected to do well in the government work.

Married Morris Baines Harris April 24 1870. mother of eleven with nine surviving children and twenty grandchildren. funeral at Christian Church with American Legion honors and Moravia Cemetery interment.
The Coltrain family mourns Chester Veolin Coltrain born March 26 1925 who died near Unionville Town Dun 18 1997 at age 1 month 22 days. Survived by parents Itay and Elsie Coltrain four brothers four sisters and many relatives. Card thanks expresses gratitude to friends neighbors and community for sympathy and offerings. BYC Club members were entertained at Mrs Grace Main’s tea last week with light refreshments and a social hour.
Moravia High School edged Sewal 21 to 17 on their home floor in a hard fought contest. Sewal entered with a strong record and Moravia’s win boosts confidence ahead of a rematch at Sewal next Friday. The girls’ game followed, Sewal beating Moravia 21 to 20 in a tightly contested finish, with Poffenberger highlighted as a fast forward.
Regular meeting of the O K E S is set for Tuesday evening at Masonite Hall February. All officers are asked to come early.
A Moravia High School hosted a January 20 gathering of Appanoose County teachers with a dinner and idea exchange. Attendees included County Supt. Clarence McCracken and numerous district leaders and spouses from Centerville, Cincinnati, Moravia, Moulton, Mystic, Numa, Unionville, Sigourney, and Centerville.
The brother of Rev C. O. Hobson, W. V. Hobson, 24, died after sustaining electric burns while on duty as agitation manager. Rev Hobson and his wife rushed to his bedside but arrived too late. The death brings sorrow to the family with many friends offering sympathy.
Mrs W H Morgan returns from Burlington Iowa where she has been at the bedside of her son Gerald Morgan injured in a road route accident earlier in the week. He was crushed between two truck radiators in a head on collision while hauling graves for a road construction company in Louisa county. He suffered a broken collar bone a dislocated shoulder and two broken ribs plus minor injuries. His condition improved steadily.
