A pre-nuptial shower for Miss Ann Pettibone was held at the Legion hall on Wednesday evening January 25. Hostesses included Mrs. Earl Boyer Mrs. Earl Fischer Mrs. George Turney Mrs. Loyd Carter Mrs. Clair McDanel Mrs Ivan Harsh Mrs. Lloyd Rose Mrs. Theo Miller and Mrs. Jay Wilson. Guests enjoyed opening and displaying gifts and refreshments of cake and coffee. Attending were about 70 people including Mrs. Dale Brede of Klemme and guests from Centerville and Blakesburg.

Jasper Allen of Rt 2 Moravia announces his son, 20, has enlisted in the United States Marine Corps for three years. He is eight weeks into basic training in San Diego, California, with plans to transfer to Camp Pendleton for field tactics, sanitation, first aid, map reading, and rifle familiarization.

Bridgeport Station to Add Turbo-Generator Capacity

Iowa Southern Utilities plans a 50 percent capacity increase at Bridgeport station by adding a 20 500 kilowatt turbo-generator to reach a total of 61 500 kilowatts. Construction starts spring with operation by fall 1957 at a total cost of about 2 505 000 dollars. Bridgeport is the largest Iowa Southern plant among five in Ottumwa Centerville Creston and Washington.

Garden Club Meeting at Aleafa Hiatt Home

The Garden club met Wednesday afternoon January 25 at Aleafa Hiatt’s home with 23 members. Dor othy Boyer welcomed new member Bernice Ellison. The auditing committee praised last year’s treasurer. Plans include Federated Garden Clubs of Town at Des Moines Home and Flower Show Feb 18–26 at Veterans Memorial auditorium with advance ticket sales. 50 tickets at 50 cents each available. SFO Stone and Family Return From Germany

Robert Stone and Mrs Stone and twins Karen Sue and Kevin Paul arrived last Wednesday from Heilbronn Germany to spend part of a 30 day furlough with his parents W B Stone and other relatives. They will travel to Tacoma Washington to report to Fort Lewis for reassignment after the visit. Sgt Stone has served 14 years in the Army. They will visit his sister Mrs John Dalton at New Sharon and his brother Charles Stone at Marshalltown.
