A heart ailment led to surgery in Iowa City for a local resident. operation successful though recovery will take time. The Methodist groups raised a cash purse for his family. Moravia residents shared Christmas joy, gifts, and stories of visiting Des Moines, with the Union editor noting a fine holiday season and plans for an upcoming drive west and southwest.
On Christmas Eve the Mo ravia family received help from Rev. LaVern Smith and his Moravia Nazdrene church, as the pastor shared the true spirit of giving with those in need.
The Union staff expect a lighter day as they brace for reduced staffing and invite early submissions of news and ads. Warm wishes are shared in a brief New Year greeting while several reports note temperatures dipping to 12 to 15 below zero Wednesday morning.
Salem News notes Mr. and Mrs. Jim DeWitt and sons returning Monday to visit relatives including Harold Argo and Clarence Whitehead families after two years in France. Local gatherings include supper guests, Christmas programs, and numerous family visits across Ottumwa Moravia Iconium and surrounding areas.
The Wesley Chapel youth and children hosted a Christmas program and gift exchange Friday night with treats for all. Families attended including the Clark, Lindt, Zintz, Moore, Main, and McDanel households with several visiting over the weekend. Santa visited Debra and David as part of holiday gatherings with neighbors and relatives joining in the seasonal events.
DeWayne Robinson travels to Corydon for a Tuesday ball game. Virgil Dooley and family host Christmas eve at Centerville, Gladys Frost of Ottumwa shares Christmas exchange with Vie Zintz family. Elmer Hiatt and Gary dine with Easil Hiatt. Bill Long and family join Tom Pettibone group at Bob Evans Cincinnati for supper. Vic Zintz visits Richard J Ogden and Flo Hiner homes. John Sutton of Ottumwa visits Chris Bogart. Mrs Ralph Spencer and Mary Kay attend a 4-H meeting at Marie and Roy Dooley. Chris Bogart also calls.
Mr and Mrs Chris Bogart hosted Christmas at their Drakeville Iowa home. Ralph Spencer family attended Methodist church program. Sam Pettibone family joined Bill Long for supper. Ensil Hiatt visited Martha Ransom in Centerville. Vie Zints family attended NF0 Christmas party at the community center. Fairview church stove trouble sent congregation to Wesley Chapel for Christmas program. Callers at Late Hiatt home included Carol Brese family Albia Harley Burton Carl VanZante Mary Long Kenny and Marie Richard Ogden Vie Zintz Martha French’s Thursday event.
Walden residents report brief social calls during the holiday period. Warren Rouse welcomed guests Wednesday night while Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Spencer called on Mrs. Bertha Spencer. Children celebrated Christmas at Albla with relatives.
