Hog Price Movement Normal During Year

Iowa State College Extension Service notes fall price declines were softer than typical due to late spring pig crops and a wider corn hog ratio. Expect slower winter price rises as late spring pigs hit markets. Demand for pork strengthens with rising workers’ incomes in early 1936, while large cattle supplies may press hog prices lower. The corn hog ratio widened, encouraging heavier hog weights and sow breeding for spring farrow.
