Iowa farmers begin state planning effort in January
About 1,600 Iowa farmers will start shaping the state's agricultural future in January. County planning committees, named in 80 counties and to be appointed in the remaining 70, will work with Iowa State College and the federal government to fit county programs into a long-term policy. Murl McDonald notes committees range from 10 to 20 members representing diverse farm interests. Nine district training schools will be held early January for county agents and two representatives per county to outline plans and materials. Local judgments are needed to tailor plans to each county.
