Origins of Christmas cards and early designs
History notes conflicting claims on who sent the first Christmas card and who popularized the custom. It traces John Calcott Horsley’s 1843 triptych for Sir Henry Cole and W. C. Dobson’s 1845 engravings, with early English prints showing simple motifs like robins and holly.
