Long-Distance Song Promises Cheer Across Distance
Mrs. Marjorie Gordon of Clinton lay ill for three months when her brother Donn Blake and friends sang by long distance telephone from Maquoketa to lift her spirits one week. A half-dime dated 1840, linked to a long-lost relic, and a tale of a gun and a horse incident appear among recalled events and local anecdotes noting gratitude to Game Warden Fritz Pierce of Algona and the Fort Atkinson workmen who presented a gift to him after a tale of repayment by friends Glenn Lewis of Ackley and others.
