Iowa agronomists urge brisk fertilizer use in 1944
Iowa State College Extension Service reports farmers can profitably use about 388 516 tons of fertilizer in 1944, six times 1943. Last year Iowa farmers used 67 500 tons, a record. War Food Admin plans boost nitrogen and superphosphate, with potash limited by lend lease. Farmers should file early via local dealers, listing crop, acreage, fertilizer grade, rate, and total amount. A leaflet with soil specific recommendations is forthcoming through county directors.
