Harold Burton of Firamant/e in the Navy is expected home this weekend after two years of service. His wife Elizabeth Cameron and daughter Diane reside in Moravia. He plans to visit his parents Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Burton and will receive his discharge at Minneapolis this week.
Mr and Mrs Fred Dotson have received a letter from their son S Sgt Dayton Dotson now Chief Clerk of Morning Report Section at Headquarters London England stating he is feeling fine and would be home in the near future on a 90 day furlough He has not decided but is considering reenlisting after discharge.
Mr and Mrs Earnest Kincade received a telephone call Monday evening from their son Dwight Kincade SF 2 c Sea Be. He received his discharge that day after three years in the service. He spent seven and a half months in the Azores in the Atlantic and the balance in the South Pacific. Dwight lives at Hammond Ind and will be in Moravia soon for a visit.
James Ahee chief storekeeper returned from two years overseas stationed at Roy in the Marshall Islands to spend leave with his wife Barbara and his parents near Unionville. He will report back to duty after January 1. Cleo Barnes discharged from army at Denver November 24 plans to visit his mother in Moravia, after two years in the southwest Pacific.
Mr and Mrs Frank Chambers hosted a Sunday dinner for their grandchildren. Chief Petty Officer John Richard Ballew returned Friday from Tokyo on 30 day leave. Betty Marie Ballew, missionary student in Chicago, and Ket ben Chambers of Jamestown Ind, discharged after 34 months in the Pacific area also attended. Also present were Richard Ballew, Mrs George Bel Yew Jr Judith Ann and the Wynes family among others. afternoon callers included Lute Hiatt and Purvis Criddlebaugh, with Charles Winane.
A mixed quartet from the Cincinnati Christian church will perform Sunday afternoon at 2:00 at the Moravia Church of Christ. The public is welcome and admission is free, with a free will offering collected.
Free man Johnson funds two lighted Christmas trees for Moravia park near the Community Service Honor Roll. He plans to restore tree lighting using wartime bulbs and wiring, with trees to be lit during the holiday season. He also donates trees to all Moravia churches left at Gardner & Son store, and promotes trees for sale at Ivan Walter Shoe Shop. Johnson and Clinton Baker of Albis traveled to Wisconsin for deer hunting and plan a barbecue for the Open Bible church in Albin, date forthcoming.
In Appanoose County Christmas Seals fund tuberculin testing in schools and follow up care. Since 1933 clinics in Centerville Mystic and Moravia tested 827 students, with 93 x rays financed by seal sales. Donations aid hospital X ray readings and rehabilitation for sanatorium patients, guiding return to work and ongoing exams.
The plan shifts TB testing costs from 100 to 300 dollars per school funded by seal sale revenue. One fourth plus 125 dollars goes to State and National funds. the rest stays in the county for local use. A Christmas Seal on every letter is urged by County Seal Sale Chairman Mrs. Roxa Miller. In Moravia testing clinic, 20 people received the test. not all reactors have been X-rayed yet, with completion planned soon. The total program cost is about 800 dollars from Seal Sale funds.

Carl Long of Chugwater Wyoming arrived Monday to visit his aunt Mrs Clell Long and other relatives. This is his first Moravia visit since moving to Wyoming 88 years ago with his parents the late Claude and Mrs Long.
James L Murphy advertises a public sale of household goods to be held tomorrow Friday December 7. The notice appears in this issue and lists items for sale.

The Taylor Toilers 4-H Club met at George Turner home with Mary Beth Turner presiding as president and vice president absent. Members present included Robbie Carter Jerry Pettibone Mary Beth Turner Virginia Carter Richard Goughnour Francis Miller Earl Boyer and Mr Fuller. A party was planned for December 1 and three new members were initiated.
Mrs C M McFatridge hosted the first season meeting of the 20th Century Club on Wednesday evening. Contests entertained attendees while twelve members and several guests enjoyed ice cream, cupcakes and coffee served by the host and several named helpers including Mrs Raymond Ashby and Mrs H E Watts.
Mr and Mrs Richard Gordner of Torrence California arrived Tuesday to visit his parents northwest of Moravia. Gordner was discharged from the navy October 28 after months in the Pacific. Mrs Lorence Gordner and Sally land Robert of Humboldt will join the Gordners at the parents home, Lorence Gordner is overseas in the Pacific areas.
Neal Burton of Richland moved to Washington Iowa and accepted a position with the McDaniels store. He was formerly a partner in the Robertson and Burton store in Richland, which they recently sold.
R C Duvee of Centerville was re elected president of the Appanoose county board at the annual meeting Tuesday evening. Officers elected include Karl Fischer Moravia vice president Chester L Barbee Centerville treasurer and A M Barker Centerville secretary CG Howell Centerville attorney new director. Other four directors are Glen Birlingmair W Po is Sam B Carpenter and L Hoover succeeding Hale G Greenlee
Eloise Kaster and Lawrence G Murphy wed November 10 at 2 30 PM in the Methodist Episcopal church Moline Illinois with Rev Honeywal officiating The bridal party included Elo jnne Elledge maid of honor Arlene Easter and Richard Vande Bike as attendants The couple plans a Chicago honeymoon They reside at 1013 19th St Rock Island Illinois and both work at Carlton Catering Co in Moline

The Church of Christ lists Bible School at 10:00 a.m. with Horace Schafner as Superintendent followed by an 11:00 a.m. Communion Service. Worship services occur on the second and fourth Sundays with morning and evening sessions. A Cincinnati Christian Church Mixed Quartet concert is set for 2:00 p.m. with admission charged. Christian Endeavor meets at 6:80 p.m.

On November 30 Taylor and Chariton township Farm Bureau held their regular monthly meet at the Moravia community center. Oyster stew with pie and coffee was served to seventy four persons. Karl Fischer reported on highlights from the Farm Bureau Convention in Des Moines. Games followed led by Mrs. Kenneth Condra and Mrs. Glen Garrett.
At the regular meeting Antiquity Lodge No 262 A F and A M in Trenton Wilson was elected W M for 1947. Others chosen include Carter S W Harold Mason J D E Bishop treasurer Minney secretary and Fred Blum enstock trustee for three years. Refreshments followed the session.
Mrs E F Oshler returned home after a four week visit with relatives in Cherokee Fairview and Watonga Oklahoma. Several families and guests attended oyster suppers and social calls across Ottumwa and Des Moines with notes of travel and holiday work plans.
December 12 Are Welding on The Farm aims to address farmer needs as electrification increases. December 19 Dewey M. Jontz Iowa State Sheep Breeders Association will discuss sheep topics. January 2 Swine Management and January 9 Farm Improvement round out the series with practical farming focus.
The Moravia Senior class box supper scheduled for Thursday evening is postponed due to a flu epidemic. A new date will be announced later.
In loving memory of our dear father Levi Swaim who passed away sixteen years ago on December 5. Frank Swaim Mrs Grace Main and Mrs Emma Tadlock recall him with affection and sorrow.
Infant son of Mr and Mrs Clifton Boardman of Albia born Nov 80 in Ottumwa hospital died soon after birth. Short funeral services were held at 2 00 Saturday afternoon and burial was in Albia cemetery.
The John Sharp sale last Thursday drew a large crowd with stock and machinery fetching top prices. The So and Sew club provided lunch. The 150 acre farm was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mason.
Charles Coffin and Ira Cox of Allerton visited Thursday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Harold Hudgens and Mrs A Hiatt spent Tuesday in Ottumwa. Theodore Murdy and son Raymond of Moulton joined his parents W V Murdy for a Sunday visit. Francis Oehler of Centerville Ted and Jay of Moravia attended funer al services in Ottumwa for their cousin Mrs Dan Steck. Mark Blackman visiting Cedar Rapids relatives Kenneth and M K Blackman. Mrs Blackman also traveled to Cedar Rapids to fetch him.
The Moravia Vocational Agriculture Department received its first shipment of surplus war equipment from Ankeny Iowa. The order included 120 pounds of hardware and two heavy work tables. F Y A boys plan a shop open house in early spring to display student projects and invite the public to tour the shop.
John B. McClelland of Iowa State College spent Tuesday with the Moravia Vocational Agriculture Department. He commented the shop work is good, the boys are doing a fine job, and the shop appearance reflects credit to the program.
W L Smith of Lovilia longtime Moravia resident died November 28 after a three week illness from a paralytic stroke. Survived by wife Grace three sons Harold Merle Smith Knoxville Morian Smith Mussey four daughters Hazel Hegwood Knoxville Marjorie Davis Miryaville Derlene Vargagon Lovilla Betty Shaffer Lovilla One infant son Gerald Waunita preceded him. Thirteen grandchildren five brothers two sisters his parents Charles Okella Smith Knoxville plus many relatives. Former farmer and auctioneer in Blakesburg and area saved by grace shortly before death. Born May 20 1883 aged 63 years six months 17 days. Funeral December 3 Lovilla Methodist Church at 2 pm with Robert Zimmerman handling services. Interment Graceland Knoxville.
George Derby returned Friday from a trip to Vallejo California to visit his son-in-law and daughter Mr and Mrs Norman Firkins and daughter En route home he stopped at Bushnell hospital Brigham City Utah to see his son Sergeant Donald Darby

Mrs. Joe Fuller and Mrs. Horace Coolidge hosted a Hedrick shower for Mrs. Max Hiner, formerly Ruth Bower, at Mrs. Fuller's home in a courtesy gathering prior to her recent marriage.

A barn on the late P. D. Pance farm one mile west of Vio Ravia burned Friday evening. The structure contained hay and the farm was unoccupied. There was no insurance.
