Harold Burton of Firamant/e in the Navy is expected home this weekend after two years of service. His wife Elizabeth Cameron and daughter Diane reside in Moravia. He plans to visit his parents Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Burton and will receive his discharge at Minneapolis this week.

Dayton Dotson to Be Home on 90 Day Furlough

Mr and Mrs Fred Dotson have received a letter from their son S Sgt Dayton Dotson now Chief Clerk of Morning Report Section at Headquarters London England stating he is feeling fine and would be home in the near future on a 90 day furlough He has not decided but is considering reenlisting after discharge.

Dwight Kincade Receives Discharge

Mr and Mrs Earnest Kincade received a telephone call Monday evening from their son Dwight Kincade SF 2 c Sea Be. He received his discharge that day after three years in the service. He spent seven and a half months in the Azores in the Atlantic and the balance in the South Pacific. Dwight lives at Hammond Ind and will be in Moravia soon for a visit.

Sunday Dinner for Grandchildren at Chambers Home

Mr and Mrs Frank Chambers hosted a Sunday dinner for their grandchildren. Chief Petty Officer John Richard Ballew returned Friday from Tokyo on 30 day leave. Betty Marie Ballew, missionary student in Chicago, and Ket ben Chambers of Jamestown Ind, discharged after 34 months in the Pacific area also attended. Also present were Richard Ballew, Mrs George Bel Yew Jr Judith Ann and the Wynes family among others. afternoon callers included Lute Hiatt and Purvis Criddlebaugh, with Charles Winane.

A mixed quartet from the Cincinnati Christian church will perform Sunday afternoon at 2:00 at the Moravia Church of Christ. The public is welcome and admission is free, with a free will offering collected.

Moravia to Light Christmas Trees From Johnson Gift

Free man Johnson funds two lighted Christmas trees for Moravia park near the Community Service Honor Roll. He plans to restore tree lighting using wartime bulbs and wiring, with trees to be lit during the holiday season. He also donates trees to all Moravia churches left at Gardner & Son store, and promotes trees for sale at Ivan Walter Shoe Shop. Johnson and Clinton Baker of Albis traveled to Wisconsin for deer hunting and plan a barbecue for the Open Bible church in Albin, date forthcoming.

Tuberculosis Seals Fund Supports County Health Clinics

In Appanoose County Christmas Seals fund tuberculin testing in schools and follow up care. Since 1933 clinics in Centerville Mystic and Moravia tested 827 students, with 93 x rays financed by seal sales. Donations aid hospital X ray readings and rehabilitation for sanatorium patients, guiding return to work and ongoing exams.

Prevent TB Cost Shift With Seal Sale Funds

The plan shifts TB testing costs from 100 to 300 dollars per school funded by seal sale revenue. One fourth plus 125 dollars goes to State and National funds. the rest stays in the county for local use. A Christmas Seal on every letter is urged by County Seal Sale Chairman Mrs. Roxa Miller. In Moravia testing clinic, 20 people received the test. not all reactors have been X-rayed yet, with completion planned soon. The total program cost is about 800 dollars from Seal Sale funds.

Gordner Family Visit From Torrence California

Mr and Mrs Richard Gordner of Torrence California arrived Tuesday to visit his parents northwest of Moravia. Gordner was discharged from the navy October 28 after months in the Pacific. Farm Bureau Meeting Draws 74 At Moravia Center

On November 30 Taylor and Chariton township Farm Bureau held their regular monthly meet at the Moravia community center. Oyster stew with pie and coffee was served to seventy four persons. Karl Fischer reported on highlights from the Farm Bureau Convention in Des Moines. Games followed led by Mrs. Kenneth Condra and Mrs. Glen Garrett.

Sale well attended as Masons buy farm

The John Sharp sale last Thursday drew a large crowd with stock and machinery fetching top prices. The So and Sew club provided lunch. The 150 acre farm was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mason.

Surplus War Equipment Arrives at Moravia Dept

The Moravia Vocational Agriculture Department received its first shipment of surplus war equipment from Ankeny Iowa. The order included 120 pounds of hardware and two heavy work tables. F Y A boys plan a shop open house in early spring to display student projects and invite the public to tour the shop.

John B. McClelland of Iowa State College spent Tuesday with the Moravia Vocational Agriculture Department. He commented the shop work is good, the boys are doing a fine job, and the shop appearance reflects credit to the program.

Former Moravian Dies At Lovilia

W L Smith of Lovilia longtime Moravia resident died November 28 after a three week illness from a paralytic stroke. Survived by wife Grace three sons Harold Merle Smith Knoxville Morian Smith Mussey four daughters Hazel Hegwood Knoxville Marjorie Davis Miryaville Derlene Vargagon Lovilla Betty Shaffer Lovilla One infant son Gerald Waunita preceded him. Thirteen grandchildren five brothers two sisters his parents Charles Okella Smith Knoxville plus many relatives. Former farmer and auctioneer in Blakesburg and area saved by grace shortly before death. Born May 20 1883 aged 63 years six months 17 days. Fire Destroys Barn on Pance Farm West of Vio Ravia

A barn on the late P. D. Pance farm one mile west of Vio Ravia burned Friday evening. The structure contained hay and the farm was unoccupied. There was no insurance.
