Thanksgiving reunion shines for Smith family in Iowa

In southern Iowa the Smith clan gathered for Thanksgiving with 19 present at the church table and more joining later. Rev A M Smith and family hosted a feast of roast turkey and sides, with Wilfred, Walden, and Mildred Smith’s group arriving in order of appetite, followed by shared stories, piano solos by Maxine Olive and Dorotha Bell, and a note of gratitude for the gathering.

Cast Announced For Junior Play Nora Wake Up

The Junior Class presents Nora Wake Up a December 17 show in the high school gym. An all junior cast includes Mrs Calahan Nora and family. Snow disrupts travel on Thanksgiving Eve in Northern Iowa

The first real snow storm of the year in northern Iowa arrived last Wednesday evening and lingered into Thanksgiving morning. Estimated under an inch, the snowfall still made travel hazardous on the highways. Some snow remains, while the region had experienced otherwise fine winter weather up to now.

John Tucker Found Dead In Field Near Seymour Iowa

John Milton Tucker 54 of the New Hope community near Seymour Iowa was found dead Sunday evening near a creek a half mile from his home. Coroner ruled no foul play. He left a grieving wife who died August 15 this year and children Daphne Dwight Jane Ted Maxine. He is survived by a mother a brother and a sister with grandchildren. The obituary notes his faith and long service to the local churches and communities.

Farm Ladies Plan Follow-Up Meeting at Moraine Home

Foster dies in Algonquin hospital accident victim remembered

Alex Foster aged 20 from Foster Iowa died at Miners Hospital Atbia Nev after an accident at 2:00 PM. He leaves a wife and five children, eleven grandchildren, two sisters and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at Albia with interment in Albia Cemetery. Local relatives and neighbors attended.

Forward Step Taken To Curtail Tuberculosis in Schools

A progressive effort to curb tuberculosis in Iowa counties begins with a survey of upper grade students. The program, sponsored by county school heads and local doctors with the Iowa Tuberculosis Association, uses tuberculin skin tests followed by X rays on positive reactors. By year’s end about 2,500 students and 160 teachers in seven counties will be examined, marking notable progress in the anti tuberculosis drive funded by Christmas seals.

United Brethren Church Debt Reduced by Community Drive

The United Brethren congregation raised 1000 dollars to cut church indebtedness leaving 500 dollars. The Ladies Aid redecorated the dining parlor and served 218 Thanksgiving dinners. Special thanks went to Gu a Main and wife of Kansas City for a 50 dollar donation.

The fourth Meeting of the Homemakers Evening Class on Monday November 30 focused on family food responsibilities. Topics covered included meat planning time and energy management canning buying use of leftovers and future discussions on menus and protective foods. Firkins Son Sends Panama Canal Zone News

Mr and Mrs W G Firkins receive a letter from their son E G Firkins chief electrician’s mate on the U S S Barracuda noting the crew will leave the Panama Canal Zone soon and head to the West Indies then St Thomas Virgin Islands. They plan to arrive in Philadelphia January 14 and later go to New York aboard the President Cleveland before a stay in Philadelphia.
