Derailed Engine Causes Traffic Tie-Up on Milwaukee Line
A helper engine derailed near Morayin tower at 9 10 Saturday morning between Poweraville Missouri and Brompton causing the worst traffic tie-up on the line in years. No lives were lost or seriously hurt though property damage and expenses were high. Wrecker service from Ottumwa cleared the wreck by afternoon, enabling passenger No 3 west to pass after a three hour delay. Trains Nos 2 and 8 and several freights were delayed for hours along the line.

Elizabeth Adams Dies in Ottumwa at 21
Elizabeth Adams daughter of Q J and Martha Adams of Moravilla died Sunday morning at Ottumwa Hospital after a short illness. Born November 7 1905 in Union township Appanoose County she lived near her birthplace her whole life. She was 21 years 12 months and 22 days old and joined the church October 12 1980. Funeral services were held Monday at 2:00 pm at the C Adams home with Rev Black of Ottumwa officiating. Burial followed in Suiles cemetery.

The groom, son of Oscar Harvey of Blakesburg, is a 1928 Blakesburg High School graduate. Best wishes were sent from family and friends for a long happy life.

Bridge Delegation Seeks Construction Of Soap Creek Span
A large delegation from Unionville Moravia and nearby areas met with Appandase county board of supervisors at Centerville to urge immediate construction of the Soap Creek bridge on the Unionville Moravia road. The board will consider bids and a Tax Payers League inquiry at the Monday meeting December 7. Delegates cited road danger and county needs, noting estimated cost about 7000 rather than over 20000 as previously reported.

Jess Smith was robbed about 1 40 Wednesday afternoon three miles west of Ottumwa on Highway No. while repairing a tire. A man and a woman in a mud covered Chevrolet sedan stopped, showed a gun, and took Smith’s wallet containing 18 dollars. The couple fled before the tire could be fully fixed. Sheriff A A Robinson received a description but Deciphering the license plate proved impossible.

Thanksgiving Birthday Celebration for Hawk and Smithburg Families
Thanksgiving was a day long remembered by the Hawk and Smithburg families. Three birthdays were noted: John Smithburg the day before Thanksgiving, F. P. Hawk on Thanksgiving, and BE Hawk two days later. Mr and Mrs Guy Hawk of Delia Colorado arrived with a dressed turkey for the event. A large birthday cake symbolized the senior Hieber’s age. Funeral Thursday for Mrs. Mary L. Johnson Moravia widow of Civil War veteran
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM from the Little Methodist Episcopal Church in Moravia for Mrs. Mary L. Johnson who died early Wednesday after a brief illness. Interment will follow in Moravia cemetery. She was 82 years old and had lived in the area many years.

Mrs. Jennie K. McNeal, longtime Appanoose County auditor, died at her Centerville home after an operation at St. Joseph's hospital. She served as county auditor since 1941, succeeding her husband John B. McNeal, who held the post for ten years until 1927. Active in church work and the Business and Professional Women's club, she had served as deputy recorder and abstractor prior to her county duties. Funeral services were held at Centerville Methodist Church.
