Local Youths Shine at Monroe County 4-H and FFA Fair

Local youths display and win prizes at the Monroe County 4-H and FFA fair in Albia with 128 entries in the baby beef show. Donald Carr wins grand champion baby beef, an Angus, with Brad Peterson’s Charolais as reserve. Breed champions include Carr, Maddy, Peterson, and Hutchinson among others. showmanship honors go to Cindy Johnson and Mike Knowles in senior and junior divisions. Forty-two Girl Scouts attend a day camp at Sharon Bluffs State Park east of Centerville.

Moravia Future Farmers of America members excelled at the Appanoose County Fair: Chuck Moore earned reserve grand champion Angus steer at 985 pounds, Jack Ballanger won champion Charolais heifer, Craig Miller red ribbon Hereford heifer, Charles Tarbell blue ribbon Angus feeder calf 710 pounds and red ribbon 680 pounds, Steve Sulser earned two blue ribbons with Angus steers.

Gladfelder Family News Visits and Dinner Gatherings

Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Gladfelder and Larry from Wamego Kansas visited Mrs. Iola Gladfelder and Diane in Louilla for dinner Wednesday noon. The Gladfelders and Larry also spent last week with Kenneth Gladfelder’s family in Centerville. Dale Cox and family and Jess Gladfelder dined Tuesday with Kenneth and Robert C. Gladfelder and Larry. Kenneth Gladfelder and Larry shopped in Gitimna Thursday evening. Overnight guests Thursday were Glen Van Dorin’s family, James Kearney and Kim and Jimmy of Des Moines.

Rinehart Rites Remembrance of Iconium Neighbor

Henry Bert Rinehart, born June 6 1899 near Iconium Iowa, died July 28 1969 at Davis County hospital Bloomfield aged 70, after a brief illness. He married Hazel Hiner November 30 1924 and had three children George Gerald and Mary Lou. He farmed near Iconium then retired to Albia and joined Iconium United Methodist Church. Survived by wife Hazel three children George Gerald and Mary Lou six grandchildren and many relatives. Funeral July 31 1969 at Iconium United Methodist Church with Rev L B Deedrick. Burial in Iconium cemetery.

Bosse Family Visits Des Moines After California Trip

Mrs. Mable Bosse of San Francisco and grandson John Bosse of San Carlos, with Mrs. Max McDonough, traveled to Des Moines Tuesday to visit several days at Leo Dagle’s home before returning home. They spent the past two weeks with her brother Ralph and other relatives.

Moravia readies Aug. 25 opening with staff listed

Moravia Community School plans a 1969-70 opening Monday August 25 with high school registration for grades 9-12 on August 13-14. Lou Ellen Rowley Chosen for Regional Softball Test

Lou Ellen Rowley has been notified of selection to play with the Green wood Electric Co. team of Des Moines, the state champions. The champions added three players for the regional tournament, picking two Nashua players and Lou Ellen from Moravia. Coached by Southeast Warren high school’s basketball mentor, she will join an East St. Louis team in Topeka Kansas this Friday for regional play.
