The minister D Winfield Thompson invites parishioners to a prayer meeting at 7 30 pm tonight and asks for prayers for rain and cooler weather before Sunday services continue as usual. He urges warm spiritual reflection and attendance.
Church of Christ announces a 10 a m sermon with communion and 10 30 a m Bible School. Evana returns after a four week vacation and will lead Junior Christian Endeavor with Gert Utterback. Evening services at 7 p m and a town soris gathering at Walt Lagle home Thursday. Ladies Ald Wednesday at church. Brother Withrow of Exline spoke on Man his creation fall redemption last Sunday evening.
Church calendar notes morning worship at 11 with choir, Sunday school at 9, evening services at 8 15 led by Earnest Kong and a lesson on serving Christ in the summer. Youth meeting at 4 30 7 46 pm, Boy Scouts Saturday at 8, inter church field meetings and quarterly conferences slated for August and September at various locations.
Freddie Van Dorin reports a curious scene last week as a feather shoe heel was found near the back door of the W. T. Van Dorin cream station. A potato sprout intersected the heel path and a potato grew at the end of the sprout, presenting an odd tableau in the doorway.
Relatives and friends gathered at the Loren Alden home on Tuesday evening July 29 to celebrate Mary Exoma Alden turning 19. The party featured visiting and games with refreshments of ice cream and cake served late, hosted by Suenta. Attendees included J. E. Miller and Gladys Underwood, Martha Miller and families, Claudius Miller’s family, D. G. Strunk and family, Chas. Colin, Wilbur Miller and family, W. N. Miller and daughters Inez and Eleanor, Johnny Sharp, John and Lily Woley, and Carl Coffin family.
The Saxd Annual Boyer Reunion will be held Tuesday August 19 1930 at the F. A. Boyer Grove.
A large Sunday turnout marked Neonium Homecoming at Teonium Christian Church. Attendance tallies reached about 1600 for day services, with nearly 1700 including evening events. Rev J W Zerbe delivered the morning sermon on Genesis 26 18, and Rev W R Matsler led afternoon programs with music by local groups and guest speakers from several churches.
Winners in Moravia Women's Chiba Inter-Club Council contests include Jean Katherine Broshar first in Flower Garden, Leila Day second, Marie Callen third, and Bobbie Smith first in Ver letable Garden with Leila Day second. Judges were Mys, Jed Tillmont, Mrs. W. A. Johnson of Moravia, and Mrs. Will Tattle of Upland California.
Moravia ends hotel era as Hotel Moravia ceases operations this week. Miss Marc Waughop, longtime proprietor, auctioned fixtures Saturday and moved remaining items to Centerville. Friends regret her departure but wish her well as she relocates after nearly two decades in town.
One of the largest Southern Iowa lodge gatherings will be staged at Centerville City Park on Sunday August 17 as 100 F and Rebekah lodges from Apanoose county unite for the first annual picnic in Moulton Exline Moravia Mystle Plano Unionville Desi Cincinnati and Centerville. The program is extensive and the general public is invited to attend the afternoon events.
Former Moravia Union editor Tack Allred now with Redfield Review visited Moravia Saturday afternoon with his daughter Roxa Belle and Miss Sarahbelle Judson of Redfield. He helped start the Moravia Union twenty five years ago and earlier published the Moravia Reporter. He helped promote the Fall Festival, crediting others for its early success. He plans to attend Moravia’s twenty fifth annual Fall Festival and hopes to meet more friends.
Fourth annual Burton reunion held at Center Ville city park Iowa on Sunday July 27 with uncomfortably warm weather. Attendees from Des Moines Rich Vand Iowa Medford Ore and other towns. Extended family listed among attendees including Burton and Hiatt families and many cousins and grandchildren.
The 1990-1991 Moravia Public Schools handbooks have been completed at the Unley office and are being distributed by school secretary Cheater Broshar. The volume closely mirrors prior editions containing detailed data about Moravia Schools.
The usual Band Concert will be given in Moravia this Wednesday evening. The band will perform at Deonium during the day and will return to Moravia in time for the concert.
Joseph W Fletcher born February 8 1878 in Moree County Iowa died at 12 20 Tuesday morning at his mother's home Mrs George Johnson aged 52 years 4 months and 22 days He married Nina Robinson March 18 1908 and had children Mra W J F Hudson Albia Lloyd Moravia Harold Louis (died) His wife died January 1992 He joined the Christian church in youth Funeral services were held Wednesday at Eslinger church Rev O M Morgan in charge Burial in Eslinger cemetery
On August first Moravia welcomed a new pool hall in the Whittun building on the square's neat side. Proprietor C. E. Turner reports strong business since opening day. Moravia resident Mr. Varner, moving from Melvoge, will join the venture with his wife and four year old son.
The Pence family gathered at the A E Pence home on Sunday August 3 for their annual reunion with a noon dinner and later ice crown and cake. Officers elected for the year were A E Pence president Mrs John Spencer secretary and Ed Pence treasurer. The Board of Directors of the Independent School District of Moravia Iowa will accept sealed bids up to 7:00 p m August 14 1930 for 125 tons of No 1 Lump coal to be delivered to the school building 60 tons by October 15 1940 60 tons by January 1 1931 and 28 tons by February 1 1981. Bidders must state mine source. A 200 bond is required. Coal weighed on Moravia scales. Board reserves right to accept or reject any bids. A correction clarifies a prior report on Alma Keemer her August marriage to Alten Baller. The actual bride is Miss Mary Keemer not Miss Alma. The shower was for Mary Keemer the bride of Allen T. Botlex or Botlex. After several receptions Byrd will enjoy a long rent.
The town readies a Wednesday program featuring five minute talks, concerts, a baseball game, old fiddler contest and a road dedication in Iconium. Congressman Lloyd Thurston is expected to attend along with Moravia and Mystic musicians while Moravia businesses may close for the celebration.
Mrs Theo Miller of Moravia is nominated for the second annual Champion Farm Woman of Iowa award. State Fair officials say the winner will be chosen from county nominees and then district winners, with eleven district winners honored at a monté on August 26.

Local residents attended gatherings, shopped for props to Oskaloosa, and preparations for harvest began as tent meetings continued through the week.
