Moravia Band to Play at Iowa State Fair

Moravia Public School Band director Melvin L Betterly says the band will perform two concerts at the Iowa State Fair on Friday August 28. The 11 pm and 6 pm shows are planned in the Agriculture Building. About 88 band members will attend with free grounds and amphitheatre admission for them and drivers of cars. Auto racing is also featured on the Friday program.

Local estimates place precipitation near one inch, with drizzle starting Tuesday evening and lasting into 8 am Wednesday. Rev. and Mrs. Warner Muir and daughter Lois Jean of Marion are visiting at W. H. Morgan's home. Rev. Muir attended the Pastors Institute at Chicago University while Mrs. Muir joined a United Missionary Society trustees meeting in Indianapolis. They plan August travels in Iowa and Missouri and return September 1 to begin their seventh year at First Christian Church Marion.

Iconium Homecoming Draws Large Crowd at Joint Church Event

A Sunday homecoming for Iconium Methodist and Christian churches drew a large audience for union services and a noon cafeteria basket dinner. 205 attended the morning Sunday School, with a 42-child chorus and an afternoon program featuring duets, solos, and messages. Beekeepers Elect Appanoose County Officers

J B Davidson of Centerville was elected president of the Appanoose County Beekeepers Association at a Farm Bureau meeting. Charles Miller of Numa was secretary and Edwin Johnson of Exline treasurer. A second meeting is set for Monday night August 10 at the Farm Bureau office near Luther's Store in Centerville. The central issue is foul brood, a disease threatening many beekeepers. An inspector may be hired to inspect bees and assist in better practices.

Mystic 4-H Show Planned for August Dates

Premium lists for the Mystic 4-H Club Calf and Colt Show were distributed in Moravia. The four day event runs August 19 to 22, featuring exhibits from across the region and an auction parade on Saturday. The show is a noted southern Iowa staple and helps contestants gain state fair recognition. Thursday is democrat day and Friday is republican day.

Reds To Play Centerville Ten Friday Night

The Moravia Reds are set to face Centerville's Bob Elgin's Cavalier team Friday evening. A preliminary 7:30 p.m. game features Laws versus Kaater city league teams. John Nowelh leads City League with seven wins, three losses. Laws holds second place. In Friday games Easter beat Nowela and Laws defeated Broshar. Nowels beat Broshar in a rainy Tuesday. the second game Tuesday was rained out. Standings: Nowels 7-3, Laws 6-8, Easter 4-6, Broshar 2-8.
