Mrs J F Albert sang at a Mt Pleasant meeting of the Henry County Republican women's group on Saturday. Mrs C B Hickman of Centerville delivered the address at the gathering.
Moravia Public School Band director Melvin L Betterly says the band will perform two concerts at the Iowa State Fair on Friday August 28. The 11 pm and 6 pm shows are planned in the Agriculture Building. About 88 band members will attend with free grounds and amphitheatre admission for them and drivers of cars. Auto racing is also featured on the Friday program.
Neighbors in Hedge College district staged a birthday surprise for Mr. and Mrs. E A Luse on Tuesday evening July bee. The crowd enjoyed ice cream and cake and a social gathering with many attendees listed by name and family ties.
The Moravia cooperative marketing organization shipped two cars of livestock to the St. Louis market, including one car of sheep and one car of cattle and hogs.

Clifton Board reports a cat at M. E. Boardman home in Brompton became mother to four kittens and later adopted a young timber squirrel placed with them. The cat nurses and cares for the squirrel as she does her own young.

Rev. and Mrs. Warner Muir and daughter Lois Jean of Marion are visiting at W. H. Morgan's home. Rev. They plan August travels in Iowa and Missouri and return September 1 to begin their seventh year at First Christian Church Marion.

The seventh McDanel reunion will be held Sunday, August 16 at Centerville Park. Organizers Irvine Hilton, Secretary Treasurer, urges attendance and notes plans for a group gathering in Dephne.
Main and descendants are asked to attend the annual Main family reunion to be held at the Main Grove south of Morevia on highway No 60 Sunday August 9th.
A Sunday homecoming for Iconium Methodist and Christian churches drew a large audience for union services and a noon cafeteria basket dinner. 205 attended the morning Sunday School, with a 42-child chorus and an afternoon program featuring duets, solos, and messages. Notable attendees included families from Des Moines, Ottumwa, Keosauqua, and Chariton, among others.
J B Davidson of Centerville was elected president of the Appanoose County Beekeepers Association at a Farm Bureau meeting. Charles Miller of Numa was secretary and Edwin Johnson of Exline treasurer. A second meeting is set for Monday night August 10 at the Farm Bureau office near Luther's Store in Centerville. The central issue is foul brood, a disease threatening many beekeepers. An inspector may be hired to inspect bees and assist in better practices.
Premium lists for the Mystic 4-H Club Calf and Colt Show were distributed in Moravia. The four day event runs August 19 to 22, featuring exhibits from across the region and an auction parade on Saturday. The show is a noted southern Iowa staple and helps contestants gain state fair recognition. Thursday is democrat day and Friday is republican day.
The Moravia Reds are set to face Centerville's Bob Elgin's Cavalier team Friday evening. A preliminary 7:30 p.m. game features Laws versus Kaater city league teams. John Nowelh leads City League with seven wins, three losses. Laws holds second place. In Friday games Easter beat Nowela and Laws defeated Broshar. Nowels beat Broshar in a rainy Tuesday. the second game Tuesday was rained out. Standings: Nowels 7-3, Laws 6-8, Easter 4-6, Broshar 2-8.

Mrs. Etta Halden travels from Moravia to Chariton then joins Mr. and Mrs. Berry Halden and Maudetta Halden on a ten day vacation. The party heads to Topeka Kansas for a conference with Gov. Alf Landon before touring Denver and other Colorado points.
Jelly Mrs Grace Main and daughters visited Eddyville Sunday. land moved to a farm near Salem. In 1861 Civil War officers came to recruit volunteers. Captain Phillips Vermil Mian and Ed Merrical assisted. Julig Kaster lived with McClouds. Her marriage to Bodor Baker drew community interest.
