Church of Christ communion and union young people's meeting held at the Em M E Church with services at eight in the evening. Ladies have been busy serving threshers meals.
Local religious groups announce Sunday services and evening worships at Iconium, Fairview, Hilton, and Mi-Woek churches. Sub-District Institute, Epworth League events, and a noted homecoming are planned with leaders Doris Free Veya Boshak and Darlene Gadfelder directing youth activities. 35 young people attended last Tuesday.
Dinner menu lists dishes for Wednesday August 12 including baked bouef noodles mashed potatoes corn cottage cheese Harvard beets apple sauce yum yum salad pie bread butter jelly tea coffee and a note of U B Aid.
The Centerville sub district Epworth League hosts a Mystic program at Mystic Botlack on August 6. Lucille Gray and Clifford Boyer direct with Mystic League as hosts. Activities include recreation, hikes, refreshments, business, devotion, and talks on Simplicity in recreation work and worship. All young people invited.

He warns relief from Washington is unlikely and calls for perseverance.
Rebekah semi annual installation of officers will be held at the hall Monday evening August 17. Mr and Mrs W A Smith were in colonies on business Thursday and Friday.
Ted Oehler Moravis Oil Co announces leasing of their highway No 0 station at Wabash Ave to Robert Dunn and Miss Maile Waughop. Dunn will manage the station and continue handling Mid-Continent products. Waughop will run a general restaurant in the remodeled dwelling. They have possession. The business will be called the Diamond Inn.
The Pence reunion gathered Sunday at the John L. Johnson home north of Moravia. Swing rides delighted children and a cafe style lunch featuring fried chicken fed the crowd. Attendees included Delph Pence Virgil Pence Jock Clark John Johnson and families, Spencer DuVall Wilson Brown Johnson Spencer and many relatives from Hamilton Des Moines and nearby areas.
P H Morris reports a prize snake tale from the Ralph McDonough farm near town. A one and a half foot house snake was found curled on top of fruit cans in the kitchen cabinet last week. The snake entered via a basement door left ajar and a mouse hole. openings were promptly closed afterward.
Bring your bottle to Smith Drug Store and have it filled with Fly Spray for 24 per pint during a sale. The ad emphasizes self-fill service and a per pint price.
School notice from Superintendent Oliver Trelan requests high school students to bring in or trade old books before registration day August 15. He thanks those who already participated and asks all to cooperate in the effort to provide usable books for others.
The Olin Swaim home near Unionville was completely destroyed by fire last Thursday evening while the family was away. Neighbors found the blaze too far advanced to enter, furniture and clothing were lost, and the loss was partially covered by insurance.
The Day family met Sunday July 28 at Leighton park Ottumwa for an all day reunion. Members traveled from Iowa Missouri and Minnesota. Officers elected for the coming year included president Hasvell Day vice president J Y Day secretary treasurer Mrs O E Day and an entertainment committee chaired by Martul Day. A large attendance included Morgan Day John Dyke Floyd Day and many relatives from Missouri and Iowa. The next reunion will be held the Sunday before Labor Day at Leighton park.
Moravia Fall Festival association president D. E. Bishop has set Thursday evening for the annual meeting at the Moravia Union office. Officers will be elected and plans for the 26th Annual Festival will be discussed. Boosters are urged to attend. committees should be at work as the festival date approaches in a few weeks.
Robert Henry Millemon son of William and Francheon Millemon was born February 1, 1981 near Moravia Iowa and died July 31 1931 at age 50 months and 29 days Funeral services were held at the Cheitatlan Church Moravia on August 2 at 2 PM with Rev W P Donahag delivering the sermon and interment in Moravia cemetery
The fifth Burton reunion was held at City Park in Centerville Iowa on Sunday July 20 with a picnic dinner. Attendees from distant places included Glen Hiatt and Billie of Washington BC George Russell Medford Oregon Neal Burton and daughter Evelyn Richland Iowa and many more relatives listed.
The Main Homecoming will be held Sunday August 9 at N. J. Main Grove south of Moravia on highway 6. All Main families urged to be present, Secretary.
Two Moravian boys George Pence and Claude Swaim may be called to active guard duty with Illinois National Guard troops in Chicago to quell a communist uprising and rioting. They are members of the Illinois Guard company of Rockford and are at Camp Grant for two weeks of summer training. Mayor Cer mak has asked readiness for emergencies. The unrest followed a tenant eviction in a Negro district where unemployment and communist leaders have caused trouble in recent weeks.
George W Hamilton a longtime resident died at a Waterloo hospital on July 29 after a several month illness. Born September 24 1839 in Newport Delaware he moved to Moravia in 1855 later lived in nearby towns and spent about twenty years in Waterloo with his daughter. He leaves three children nine grandchildren five great grandchildren two great great grandchildren a brother a sister and many relatives. Funeral services were held at the Moravia M E Church with pallbearers and interment in Moravia cemetery.
Gladys Pearl Reich was born in Moravia Iowa on December 24 1887 and died July 28 1931 aged 43 years 7 months and 4 days. She lived in Moravia Her life centered on Moravia Public Schools and later Cornell College Mt Vernon Iowa She was generous thoughtful and sought to help others A member of the Methodist Church she leaves a mother Mrs P A Reich three brothers Francia of Chicago IL Hervehel of Enid Okla and Keith at home plus many relatives Funeral services were held from the Moravia Methodist Episcopal Church Thursday July 4 at 240 pm Rev B G Hawkins pastor officiating Interment in Moravia cemetery

Francis Marion Stocker, son of Mr and Mrs Hiram Stocker, born May in 1806, died July 21 1931 aged 25 years 1 month 20 days. He married Lucy Shankwiler December 2 1895. Survived by wife five daughters Jona Ines Alta Vance Mina Dorpthna and four sons Blaine Francis Vern Lloyd, plus three sisters and one brother. Funeral Thursday July yard at 2 80 o clock pm conducted by Rev W P Denabee Burial at Sailts cemetery.
In Fremont, the W A Springer residence suffers a basement kerosene mishap after gasoline is used by a Springer employee. Mrs Springer sees no flare, husband douses the fire from across the street, and Winslow is toppled to extinguish the blaze. The fireproof section minimizes damage.

Fire department responded to a Saturday call at the Dudley residence in northeast Moravia where a fire of unknown origin was reported. The blaze was extinguished with little damage observed.
