James Wilson Injured in Farm Baler Accident

James Wilson, former northwest Caporavia, was hurt Monday afternoon when his right foot was caught in a hay baler roller. Richard Calhoun aided, turning off the tractor, and Frank Wilson aided in freeing him. Wilson was taken to Albia hospital, then Ottumwa, with a deep burn, a broken toe bone, and multiple bruises. a cast will be applied once the burn begins healing. Room 227.

Gene Lathen Injured in Farm Accident

Rene Lathen sustained serious injuries Tuesday afternoon near Hilton when he fell from a tractor pulling a manure spreader. He was transported to Albia hospital for x rays showing several pelvic fractures.

Mrs Ruben Faber underwent surgery Monday at Monroe county hospital and is improving. Kenneth Johnson underwent surgery in Ottumwa hospital with room 217. Mrs Robert Dougan and daughter Roseann of Havana Alabama, a former Moravia Commercial instructor, visited Mr and Mrs T E Campbell. Chris and Bruce McDonough visited their grandmother Trene Bower in Coon Rapids and the Leo Dagle family in Des Moines.

Moravia FFA Receives Honors at Fair

Moravia FFA members sweep beef sheep and swine divisions at the fair. Chuck Moore exhibited the grand champion steer, Steve Sulser the reserve, both Angus from Moravia. Terry McElwain of Seymour won the champion beef heifer. Kenneth Lindley won multiple Corriedale classes and received a blue ribbon for his purebred flock. Danny Wilson earned a blue ribbon with his Hampshire market hog.

Appanoose County 4-H livestock members reported a record year with the most exhibits in livestock. Winners include Dairy Jersey Bever ly Mallett, Guernsey Linda Burns, Brown Swiss Don Bros har, Holstein Kevin Daniels, Showmanship Susan Dooley. Swine champions Pam Houser, Danny Haines, Mark Hefner. Sheep champions Bruce Clark, David Smith, Kenneth Lindley. Beef and cattle awards given to multiple 4-H and FFA members with grand and reserve grand champions noted. Total 4-H and FFA sales reached 29,684 with swine at 18, sheep 7y represented, steer average price 28.05 per cwt. Hy-Ver Food store bought a steer for 40 CWT from John Glenn of Plan y. Reserve grand champion bought by Paul Morris for 31.50 and Gary Lutg.
