Threshing Machine Visits Williams Farm Ahead of Monroe Fair

A 1918 28 inch threshing machine operated by Charlie Williams and four Williams brothers performs at Sam Williams farm three miles north of Moravia as Monroe County 4-H fair preparations proceed. About 76 bushels per acre were threshed from 12 acres of oats, with seed quality praised. 4-H livestock entries due July 31 in Albia. expected numbers include around 150 swine, 80 sheep, 95 beef-related entries, and significant growth in horse projects. Judges named for sheep, swine, beef cattle, and dairy. schedule set for August 6 to 9, including the 4-H Livestock Sale. Swine barn paving funded by donations and completed with steel gates, built by Albia FFA and 4-H groups.

Kenneth Martin of near Plano displayed the grand champion baby beef at Appandose County Fair Tuesday. Jack Gillis of Mystic Road showed the reserve grand champion. Both were Angus calves as about 60 baby beeves and 30 heifers are listed in 4 H and FWF A divisions at Centerville fair. Gary Argo earned blue ribbon for his pen of three market hogs, with livestock sale set for Thursday morning.
