On Sunday July 22 1956 the Hiatts from Centerville Iowa visited Clara Corbin near Atlanta Missouri to celebrate Uncle Roy Hiatt and Wilbur Phillips birthdays. A noon meal followed by a visit to the new home and Steele cemetery honored the family veterans and mourned eight prior losses. The Tisue reunion took place Sunday at Albia city park with a cooperative dinner and visiting. It was decided to hold the 1957 reunion in Moravia park on the last Sunday in July. Attendees included Cass and a list of Tisue family members from Albia Moravia Lovilla Blakenburg and nearby areas.
Mrs Iva McKay 81 of Palmyra Nebraska died Friday in a nursing home after a long illness She was born on a farm east of Moravia daughter of James and Charlotte Tadlock She taught school before marrying L D McKay 53 years ago L D McKay is her only son She survived by two grandchildren two sisters and two brothers Funeral services were held Sunday at Palmyra Nephews Lee and Grant Tadlock and James Weinman with family visited from Indianola
The Moravia softball team posted three wins last week. They beat Russell 5-2, Corydon 17-1, and Plano 16-0. Bud McDanes struck out 13 in five innings, giving up one hit, while Ronnie Underwood hit a homer. Dick Johnson and Keith Gladfelder added triples. Davis and Wakefield pitched for Plano, allowing 16 hits. Leon returns for tonight's game and an ice cream social to raise funds for the team.

Donald Plum is pastor and Mrs Birdle Main is Superintendent. Sunday School begins at 10:00 am, Communion at 11:00 am. An 8:00 pm union service will be held in the park. Ladies Aid meets for quilting Wednesday afternoon at the church.

Miss Ethel Householder from South Pasadena visited Mrs. Charles Coffin and Forrest Main, then headed to Bladin Nebraska to see her sister. Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Gardner of Lake City visited with their son Walt Gardner and family. The Har nesses of Bonaparte spent Sunday with Ray Chorley, Karla returning home with them. Harry and Mrs. Glick marked their 58th anniversary with family dinner. Raymond Ashby and wife just returned from a northern wander and visited Gene Zimmerman in Albin Wyoming. Delphis Duff and Angeline Batterstone called on Jennie Pollard.
Mrs Helen Johnson was the first to call in to the Union office last Thursday identifying the aerial farm picture as Dell Hellyer & Sons west of Moravia. Other early callers after 1 PM Thursday included Mrs Gaylord McDanel Mrs Lois DuVall Mrs Johnny Whicker Mrs Jack McDonough and Mrs Emery Kehrberg.
Last week’s mystery serial farm picture shows the D. B. Hellyer & Sons with the fourth generation on the Hellyer farm, settled in 1851. The diversified operation spans 80 acres of corn, 60 alfalfa, 55 oats, 95 purebred Duroc hogs, 160 purebred Corredale sheep, five ponies, and a registered American saddle stallion Stonewall Mac. The farm uses 200 pounds of fertilizer per acre, practices soil conservation, and features barns and a house built by the family. D. B. Hellyer and sons Dick and Clark live on site along with Hazel, Helen Rose of Des Moines, and George of Albia. the farm lies on the Iconium road, five miles west of Moravia.
The Joseph and Abner Roberts descendants held the 36th reunion at Blakesburg park on Sunday July 29 with 43 people present. Officers elected were president Harold Roberts Blakesburg vice president Harold Fleming Mt. Union and secretary treasurer Lula R Tillmont Moravia. A basket dinner followed and letters from absent members were read. The group planned next year’s reunion for Blakesburg park the last Sunday in July.
Boy Scouts of troop 40 plan a Parents Night on Tuesday August 7 in Moravia Park. Parents and prospective Scouts are invited. Demonstrations include knot tying first aid and basic scout skills. Water bolt contest between patrols and refreshments follow the meeting.
Grand Worthy Advisor of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls from Sac City and her friend Norman Roose were honored at a Masonic hall gathering on August 2. Miss Wilson received a gift as Miss Sandra Hiatt moderates questions after talks on her year’s projects. Decorations were planned by Betty King, Karen Scott, and Mary Ellen Condra.
Mrs Marion Condra and baby Antonette came home from St Josephs hospital and stay with Ken and Marion Condra. Fox and Harvey families shared visits between Marshalltown and home. Many residents traveled to Louisiana Mo to see relatives and Clark families. Links to Washington DC trip and visits in Centerville Indianola and Drake noted along with several weekend gatherings and vacations in Kansas Colorado Wyoming and Colo rado mountains.
The Wilson reunion will be held in Moravia park on Sunday August 19. Mardeena White is the secretary and organizer for the event.
John Dodd thanks friends and neighbors for cards letters flowers candy and visits received while in Kirksville hospital noting the acts of kindness are unforgettable and deeply appreciated.
A powerful storm Tuesday night brought heavy rain and wind across Moravia with readings from 2 to 3.4 inches. In Norman Ward’s southeast Moravia barn roof was damaged by lightning. the Russell Alden chicken house was set ablaze by a lightning strike on the Unionville road seven miles southeast of town. Russell Hughes reported several fuses burned out on telephones in the Iconium area.

Miss Phyllis M. Zike daughter of the Rev and Mrs T J Zike Des Moines formerly of Moravia married Friday July 27 to Edward J Main son of Mrs Hazel Main and the late Homer Main Des Moines The ceremony was at Miller Evangelical United Brethren church with Virginia Veach matron of honor Eldon Main best man She taught at Des Moines schools and Mr Main works for Farmers Insurance The couple will reside at 4024 East 44th Street Des Moines
Richard Dicks left Saturday morning for Alameda California to visit Mr. and Mrs. Donald Dicks during a two week vacation. John Dodd returned from Kirksville Missouri after twenty eight days as a surgery patient at Laughlin hospital. Mrs. Jerry Woodward and her son of Marshalltown spent the week with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Lester Cochran and family. Carl Tomlin Olin Foster Kenneth Gladfelder and Judy attended the E H Boyer family picnic at Centerville park. Paul Broshar hosted guests including Paul Strohl Council Bluffs Mildred Strohl and Margaret Harlen Englewood California. A family cooperative dinner was held Sunday. Attendees included Pearl Broshar Centerville George Winsler and grandson Johnny Baldwin Phillip Schreiner J H Schreiner Edith Hill Davenport and Donna Garner Mountain Home Arkansas, who returned home Tuesday.
The Monroe county 4-H show opens Sunday evening and runs through Monday with about 280 head entered including 134 baby beef, 19 beef heifers, 42 dairy cattle, 14 pens of lambs, hogs, poultry, rabbits, ponies, and 10 junior plus 5 senior 4-H demonstration teams. The Albia program lists band, flags, vesper, entry and judging times, style review, free circle acts, midways, and livestock exhibitions across August 5 to 9 with numerous contests and a livestock sale.
The Moravia park picnic shelter fund gains from an ice cream social night adding 40.50 to the drive. Contributors include C. W. Craver, John Veach, Carl Black, Lee Benz, Alonzo Turner, Dora Hartinger, Forest Hiatt and others plus So & Sew club and Zell Callen. Additional donors are H. K. Smith, Ira Boyer, Dwight Glick, Curtis Burton, Lloyd Rose, and Towa Southern Utilities Co. More money is needed for concrete floor, electric lights and water fountain. Volunteers meet Mondays and Wednesdays. more help needed for pouring concrete.
