D Winfield Thompson, Minister, invites readers to join the United Brethren Church services stating that moral law remains binding and church work provides soul food. He urges prayers for absent worshipers and highlights a welcoming Bible class for the aged with Sunday services at 11 am and 8 pm.
Moravia services planned for next Sunday morning with Evangelist J. H. A. Smith preaching in the pastor’s absence. Evening announcements to be made in the morning. No Wesley services. Fourth Quarterly conference and year end winding up set for August 22. Mr and Mrs J F Powell visited Albia Monday.
The Church of Christ holds Sunday School at 8 30 p m with communion and an 6 p m service on the homecoming day at Teonium. The sermon title is The Conversion of Lydia. Church work continues on the basement while choir practice occurs Tuesdays at the Bivin home. Ladies Aid meets Wednesday with about forty attending. A minor car accident near Centerville park caused no serious injuries as Jep Lockman family narrowly escaped harm. all other details noted as contributed.
Farmers urged to let the M. E. auxiliary cook for threshers with meals served daily in the church basement. Reservations through Edith Turner, president. Main Homecoming set for August 12, 1928 at N. J. Main grove south of Moravia. Waughop visited Des Moines on Monday.
The Moravia ball clubs swept a doubleheader on the Jocal Jet Sunday. Kennedy's Moravians beat Ottumwa Cardinals 11 to 10 in the opener, with Ottumwa errors fueling late scoring. The Moravian Reds crushed Plano 19 to 0, a decisive win as Ottumwa played a slow, listless game.
A garbled reminiscence recalls a boy Robert Reese facing forgotten lines and last minute improvisation amid stray lines from poems and a long list of unnamed players. The text ends noting a high school baseball game between Moravian King Henry of Navarre and Plano delayed by darkness after four innings.
A spirited Iconium vs Albia matchup ended 4 to 2 as Iconium held off Albia through nine innings. Homecoming planned August 1 at the Christian Church lawn with a well filled basket tradition. Local residents Imelda Funkhouser Argo Jennings Free and others visited and news of hospital stays and travels across the community are noted.

The Tisue family held their annual reunion at the Harry Tisue home north of Moravia on Sunday, July 29. A noon dinner, afternoon ice cream and cake, and social visits followed. Numerous relatives attended from nearby towns, with Mr and Mrs Nex Burty and daughter visiting from Richland Town. Mrs Burton and daughter stayed longer.
In the first half of 1928 Iowa record flocks averaged 15 eggs per hen across 82 000 hens, with Mrs Clyde W Cooper of Boone leading 2 60 8 C White Leghorns at 23 eggs in 30 days of June. Fred Tekippe of Fr Atkinson and Mrs W M Ferrin of Winthrop followed with 22 4 and 21 8 eggs respectively. Highest state flock income came from Buckdale Farms Melcher with 705, Mrs J E Halliday Greenfield 184, and Nanny Andreessen Stowl 415. Average receipts for the 178 flocks were about 107. Friday’s menu listed fried chicken and sides.
Announcement of the marriage of Rissa Criddlebaugh and John Ochis Foster, both of Rockford Illinois. Ceremony held July 26 at six o'clock at the home of Mrs Harris Troutman with Rev Rutherford of the Baptist Church officiating. The OTA Gama Club planned the wedding and breakfast.
U B Church announces a dinner on Wednesday August 8 featuring pork with gravy mashed potatoes sliced tomatoes creamed corn baked apples pickles ice cream coffee. Miss Fern McPall, stenographer at R W Winsler Produce Co, has been on a two week vacation at Minnesota lakes.
A large Moravia crowd gathered Saturday evening for the Pence Reunion at a home north of Moravia. The event showcased the town as a busy trading hub and extended a warm welcome to attendees. Also noted were visits from Henry Free at Juwa City hospital and a weekend group including Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Carter and Mary Frances, along with Chester Sanders and others.
Threshing crews are active across the region with grain yields unusually high. At Marion McCrory farm south of town an eight acre oat field yielded 701 bushels, about 87 bushels per acre, the highest reported. Wheat yields range 20 to 28 bushels per acre, with one field near USG Turner farm said to approach 60 bushels per acre. Overall acreage in wheat is small and grain quality is reported as very good.
Jake Brackett lies in a quiet cottage hospital room as his condition remains critical after being struck in the back four months ago by a 600 pound wedge from the Coulter-Disc factory press. His wife and five year old son stay by his side daily. Hospital officials reported no change in his condition. A M Oehler of Ottumwa is visiting Moravia relatives this week.
The 1857 Cox family memoir notes Samuel G. Cox, a Missouri immigrant who served as mail carrier and postmaster, settled in Moravia, later at Bentonville Arkansas. Five children survive: Ace Hall, Anna Fuller, Lucy Wooster, Leroy Cox, and Trustan Cox. A July 29 picnic in Centerville drew numerous relatives, including Leroy and Truston Cox and many others from Oklahoma, Kansas, and Iowa.
Moravia residents urged to attend a town hall gathering Saturday evening August 4 to discuss the Moravia Fall Festival and Farmers Institute. Annual reports will be presented and officers elected, with a strong turnout emphasized. Visitors from Des Moines included D. E. Bishoy, Mr. and Mrs. P. D. Schreiner and daughter Maxine, and Forrest Wakefield.
