Last week National Farm Safety Week reminded readers that carelessness causes farm accidents. A Moravia Fall Festival meeting appointed committees for the 41st annual festival with P. K. Horner as president and a long list of department heads and volunteers.
Local residents and visitors populate Moravia's social calendar with family gatherings and travel. Coach Ray Forbes attends summer school in Iowa City and plans a vacation. Reeves, McIntosh, and Cloyed families visit relatives across state lines. multiple trips to Lamoni, Greeley, Blue Springs, and Des Moines are noted among neighbors and friends.
Neighbors of E C Tucker helped cut, bale, and stack his hay and harvest oats after a dislocated ankle left him unable to work. Helpers included Bert Luse Theo Miller Lin Hilton Meder Dinan Loyd Carter and Bud Waughap. The note ends with thanks and a mention of observing an 82nd birthday Saturday.
Harry D Tisue of Moravia died at 3 30 a m Monday after major surgery at Laughlin hospital Kirksville Missouri He was 61 years old He was born January 20 1885 in Appanoose county and married Carrie Newman March 10 1909 They had seven children and nine grandchildren Funeral services were held July 31 at United Brethren church Moravia led by Rev J G M Talbott and burial in Moravia cemetery
Otha Glen Cline born February 11 1897 in Appanoose County Iowa died July 22 1946 in Sacramento California at age 49. He married Adelaide Wilson April 6 1918 and had Virginia Marie Jean Fisher Marjoris Roper Billie Cline. Survived by parents James and Arista Cline Moravia four brothers and two sisters. Funeral held at Clinkingbeard funeral home with burial in Ava cemetery. Based on poetic verse at end.
C L Thomas, 15, severely burned on head, hands, wrists, and legs when a gas stove exploded in the basement of their North English home. Relatives including Mrs RK Pennington and Mrs Charles Endaley were notified. Thomas spent a fair night. Hoyt Thomas is in Cedar Rapids and Roy in California. Grace Dodd suffers shock.
The Fairview Sunday School begins a daily Vacation Bible School week with twenty four pupils enrolled. The program continues at the church next Sunday evening at eight o clock.
Mrs Bessie Boghak returned from a week in Chicago where she cared for ill Jay A Cotell. She met Mr and Mrs Grover Easter and had breakfast with them and was joined by Mr and Mrs 4 W Kincade for a day of visiting before calling on Mrs Clara Morrison in Moravia on the way home.
Merchant marines arrive on leave after family deaths and relocations. Harry Tisue’s son returns from the east coast with a 30 day leave. Van Stocker visits from California for a 30 day stay with his parents. Dale Laws informs of arrival in San Francisco on July 21 and hopes to return home soon. Basil Jordan, RM 3/c, discharged July 2 after two years in service with Guam and Truk postings. Kenneth H. Tuttle reports new assignment at Sig. Sv. B. N. unit. Lt. Helen Reich, Iowa City native, discharged from the Coast Guard Women’s Reserve after two years. held Civil Readjustment duties in Boston, with prior service in Seattle and Ketchikan.
Mrs Anna buys property as Mrs Rail ing and Mr Swaim’s store linked to Pierson area. Woodward sells residence in Pierson and stores furniture at Swaim's Store while visiting Moravia and Frank Woodward near here.
Iconium Methodist Youth Fellowship sponsors an ice cream social on Thursday evening August 8 on the lawn between two Iconium stores. Serving begins at 8:30. Proceeds fund delegates to Pioneer Senior Institute at Mount Pleasant later in August. If rain, event postponed.
Church of the Nazarene announcements list Sunday School at 10 with M. H. Johnson as superintendent Morning Worship at 11 N. P. worship service at 8 and evening service at 8 Prayer and Bible Study on Thursday led by Pastor W. E. Burd events.
The United Brethren church schedules a full day of services with Pastor G M Talbott at 10 00 p m church school led by Donald Jones and 10 56 p m worship. Christian Endeavor at 7 00 p m and evening service at 8 00 p m led by Rev G B MacCanon D p Superintendent of the Town Conference will be with us Wednesday August 7 B p m to hold the last quarterly conference of the year.
The notice lists morning worship at 11:00 with Dr. Davis of Ottumwa as speaker and church school at 10:00, plus a 7:00 p.m. M. service. Wesley Chapel offers 8:45 a.m. worship and 10:45 a.m. church school.
Esther Babb pastors Iconium Circuit with Don ald Whitehead as superintendent. Sunday services at the Methodist and Fairview churches include morning worship at 10:15 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Sunday school, evening services at 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. A basket dinner is planned after services.
Beginning Tuesday evening this week Moravia Church of the Nazarene will hold special meetings led by Rev W B Burd and visiting evangelists Craig and Florence Weathers. The Weathers, now residents here, recently moved from Olivet Illinois to the home of Mrs Weathers' father in Main Station.
Booster Club hosts a cooperative supper this Friday. Members are asked to bring their own dish and table service.
Chet Broshar reports the sale of the Karso building in Moravia to Rex Angel. Angel has leased the east building to East Side Cafe and is conducting a garage in the west building. He plans to remodel the west unit, add a new front and may extend it to house bowling alley equipment.
Miss Margarete Lou Simmons daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Simmons and Eugene McCombs son of Mr and Mrs Fred McCombs both of Tracy Iowa were married at 2 00 pm Saturday July 27 at the bride's home The double ring ceremony was performed by Rev P Trostle Attendants were Mrs Zatha Simmons and Mrs Jennie McCombs The bride formerly of Moravia is granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Edgar Simmons and Mr and Mrs Frank Paxton of Moravia McCombs recently discharged from the navy.
Mr and Mrs Troy Adams hosted a six o'clock dinner Sunday for Joyce Adams fourth birthday. Guests included Joyce's grandparents Mr and Mrs Walter Whitlock and their Albia-born daughter, along with Mr and Mrs Bert Adams of Iconium.
The Moravia United Brethren church hosts the quarterly conference on Wednesday evening August 7 at 8 00 led by Rev G E MacCanon D D superintendent of the Iowa Conference of The United Brethren in Christ This will be the last quarterly conference of the year.

Peters, owner of an electrical and general repair service, closed his shop this week but kept equipment on hand while seeking a new location. He sold the shop building and residence to Max McDonough several weeks ago.
Mrs Ben Coppock and Mrs George Genkinger of Washington Iowa were guests over the weekend with their sister Mrs M H Johnson and attended the wedding Friday evening of their nephew Donald Johnson and Miss Ruth Gieling.
A Des Moines firm Mc Cutchen Well Co cleaned and repaired the deep Moravia school well. The 600 foot deep well drilled in 1933 had the pump pulled the oil removed and all necessary repairs completed.
Effective today August 1 The Union charges 2.00 per year across the United States except Appanoose and Monroe counties where the rate stays 1.50. The counties form part of Moravia's principal trading area.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Robinson and son Jimmie deliver household goods to this vicinity after the Donshoo couple purchase the Charles Coffin farm 544 miles southeast of Moravia The Coffin family moves to a Seymour area farm with Duane Coffin accompanying them to the new location.
Dr Davis of Ottumwa will speak Sunday morning at Wesley Chapel and Moravia Methodist churches. He plans to arrive in Moravia Saturday for an overnight stay.
Harold Dean Rogers James Wilson and Bill Wilson led ten Monroe county youths in the livestock judging contest at Indianola on Thursday. The top trio earn eligibility to compete at the Town State Fair in August.
Mr and Mrs John Suffieoo of Barnard Mo visited for dinner with her parents Mr and Mrs James Eastor. They were returning from Rochester Minnesota where Mrs Broshar planned major surgery at Mayo clinic. Charlotte and Paul Sufficool stayed with grandparents and then left with parents.

Larry Brooks Wayne McDanel Bill Callen and Rex Kester returned home Monday night from Cheyenne Wyoming where they attended the annual roundup last week They saw the wild horse race described as wilder than ever by The Cheyenne Eagle It left horses and men scattered across the arena and Harry DuVall of Moravia Iowa rode around the track to win opening day events
Ruth Gieling daughter of Mrs. Stanley Jerski of Chicago and Donald Johnson son of Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Johnson of Mora were married at 7 p m Friday at the Church of the Nazarene in a double ring ceremony conducted by Rev W B Burd. The church was decorated with garden flowers and 85 guests attended.
The ceremony presided by Mrs. Dale Derby featured guests Maxine and Lois Scott assisting. The bride, who studied in Chicago, recently moved to live with her grandmother Mrs. Robert Grubbs. The groom, Moravia High School graduate, is discharged from almost three years in the army and works with his father and Hershel Johnson at Success Barber and Beauty Supply. The couple planned a brief Lake Okoboji honeymoon and will reside in apartments in the former hotel building owned by his father. Out-of-town guests included Mrs. Stanley Jerski, Jerrie Tierney, A. J. Tucker, Robert Gieling, T. H., Mrs. Ben Coppock, Moe George Genkinger, and Mr. and Mrs. George Grubbs and son.
The children of George Irelan gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs Elvin Stocker east of town to celebrate his 81st birthday with a noon dinner. Guests from nearby towns attended including the Bradshaws Pettits Martschings Delmar Bradshaw Nancy Irelan W T Irelan Gerald Irelan Johnnie Irelan Charley Hopking and George Noland. Mrs Ray Harris and her daughters joined from Des Moines to visit Birdie Main.
Bivin departed Friday morning for a visit with his daughters at the Will Thaden home in Doniphan Nebraska and the Verne Funkhouser home in Torrington Wyoming. His other daughter and husband, Mr and Mrs Chester Sanders, are also in Wyoming at this time.
Mr and Mrs John Dahl of Cambridge are parents of a son born July 27 at Lutheran hospital Des Moines named Jimmie Ley. Mr and Mrs H B Blake of Moravia traveled to Des Moines to meet their first grandson. Farrell Jordan and Dolores Amelia June 41 born June 41 at Oak Harbor Washington. Farrell is Ed Jordan of Moravia’s grandson. Mr and Mrs Joe Thomas welcomed a son born July 24 at Smith hospital Albia Myre. father and baby returned home Tuesday.
