Pioneer Moravia Ties Bind a Growing Community

The Moravia area’s early settlers built a life around split rail trade and agriculture. Families such as the Windsers, Pabsts, Schreiners, Youngs, Blumenstocks, and Hiatt descendants shaped the village, with Aunt Martha Hiatt surviving to 106 and recounting journeys from North Carolina to Iowa in 1852. The narrative traces wagon treks, church founding, and the rise of Moravian institutions, including Salem United Brethren and multiple churches, linking old homesteads to today’s community fabric.
